Point 2 is useless though, you can also convert the Czech version to english (check the mainpage wink.gif )

Jesus! That looks like a fish laugh.gif
Old factories, propaganda signs: okay. But East-European houses just don't make any sense. When you look at the map of Sahrani, you see a lot of Spanish looks names (even in the North), so Sahrani must have been a Spanish colony. So why are there East-European buildings and houses there then?
(personally, I just think BIS likes their islands to represent the Czech Republic a little, like they did in Resistance (-> which was fine, but it's just not suitable for an island like Sahrani))

Well since OFP was "cold war east european" inspired and many of the buildnings in the north are from OFP, well that's where you get where I got that from.

Well finally I saw with my eyes ARMA, I watched some gameplay and editor/video-setup stuff, not played but listened well to those who played
in my opinion many voices are, about now, true!!
it mantains the oddities of ofp, and I hope that could be improved but not sure about it.

some errors are simply absurd..

- it rains inside buildings (damaged roofs???) blues.gif

- some 3d models can pass through each other, some Shops entrance are simply "glued" on other buildings and look really FAKE,

-destroyed buildings DISAPPEAR (no ruins execpt dust and 2 bricks)

-level of detail is a bit less flexible than OFP one

- vehicles do weird things such as that bridge truck bumbing of the video or doing highest jump championships, humvee that climb down vertical hills like spiderman or cornering at 80mph like automan's lamborghini countach.helo that lands on their rotors (upside down) planes that hit ground and bounce back in the sky in flames(I saw no 3d damage on vehicles but only taking fire and burn)

and fps is absolutely LOW even on good PC

I saw it on a
A64 3.5GHz Venice
DFI LanParty Ultra-D Nforce4
2Gb Ram ddr400
Ati x800pro 256Mb overclocked

the only way to have more than 10 fps with some units on the map is to put all to LOW
but at this detail it all looks blurry like watered paintings
anyway even with the latest OFP mods with high-res textures some pc slow down.

the sounds is COPY/PASTE from OFP and the radio messages are about DOUBLE SPEED so it seem every officer has hurry to give roder: "go here! go there! oh now is down! oh no I'm dead!" everything speeched in 4 seconds!

AI is son of OFP AI.. so u pay the freedom of movement and big map with a AI that is a bit dumb.. some litterally suicides, some chase u as berserkers.. I miss the real battle feeling!

SO what is good?

potentially ARMA could be great, it has better 3d models than ofp, soldiers are more realistic, weapons are really nice, grass and shadows and better man and objects proportions make it look sometimes REAL..

BUT...
but it mantains ALL the faults of OFP and add something more..
LOW FPS above all.

I dunno if the community can really fix something or a patch can do it, only time can say it.

I SAY AGAIN, THIS IS ONLY an OPINION OF MINE,
I saw it running on a bunch of pc's who ran latest games at 40/50 fps
and arma freezed them down to 10/20fps.. i

f it was not for some estetic improovement like: GRASS&Vegetation, SHADOWS, WATER EFFECT, Hi-RES Textures

and for some little game improovement like: Swimming, 3d ironsights, a bit better editor.

well if it was not for those I would still look at OFP...
about now, i think that BIS could make a new milestone of pc-game, but may be near to fail its objective!. thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

HOPE SOME ONE FIND I AM WRONG

Well, the problem in my eyes is: Many useres are just hardware beginners, they don't know how to optimize there system, optimize video options etc. ... that's why so many people moan about it.

I never had problems with any game, in the end I could play every game without FPS drop may it be with more or less detail.

well I am not a hardware genius but
if I have to flat down detail ARMA to have 30 fps during medium battle
even on middle/high PC configs
if u flat donw ARMA details it will look worst than OFP except for the presence of grass and some better 3d models

well I am start to think that the engine is not enough tuned by BIS
I played Doom 3 lower detail.. I got almost epilectic with6 fps
while HL2 ran very smooth, so did FarCry,
BF2 sucx as gaem and as FPS (imho)

OFP never had optimized 3d engine and FPS related to details was not in my opinion so high, I hoped BIS could have done a miracle with ARMA but they did not, as I can see upgrading graphic has killed FPS
I dunno if is NECESSARY and HDR Video Card to get higher fps
sure is I dunno who will buy a new HighEnd PC to play ARMA at more than 30 FPS...

But you made valid points. Thing is, games will keep going forward graphically, there's nothing you can do about it tiredsmiley.gif

Just a note for all the german users: The german version has a bug made by the publisher which ruins the FPS, if you get 20FPS with everything on low you are lucky, they are currently working on a hotfix.

My gawd, how the hell can that pass tests and be sold!? Makes no sense to me at all... Did they not bother testing the German version at all on normal computers??

Its the protection morphicon added, it keeps checking for the DVD while you are playing, which takes up alot of CPU cycles... Malajn.gif

Perhaps they didn't find this in Beta testing because their copies weren't using the protection system or something.. tiredsmiley.gif

About the CPU cycles, so the German version should be alright for people with dual core CPU's or...? blink.gif

No. If you don't like playing it with reduced FPS, trash can is the only solution.

I think we should wait till King Homer gets his hand on the thing, he has a powerful enough PC to run it, if it's capped for him, it's capped for most of the people. I guess this is where cracks get to be useful.

I don't think we have to worry too much. That big of a bug won't go unpatched for long. I'd say there will be a patch out withing a day or something. Let's hope for that at least.
