this is a little little tutorial on how to increase your vegetation performance impact on FPS:

What really causes lag is the Pixel shader and Vertex Shader of the _ca texture (the vegetation): they normally have VertexShader: NormalMapSpecularThroughNoFade and PixelShader: NormalMapSpecularThrough.
