Australian Armed Forces

Registrations are open!

The Australian Armed Forces (hereafter "AAF") is a co-op based squad formed late 2008 and progressed through the mature versions of ArmA 1. With the release of ArmA 2 the AAF has proceeded on into the pandemonium and began playing co-op straight away.
We regularly do joint ops with any other squads or gaming communities that are serious enough and able to uphold the same mature gaming environment we operate within. We rented a ArmA server from Hypernia.net up until ArmA 2, and plan to have one running hopefully by the Aussie release date.

So your interested? To set the scene before we go onto how the AAF operates, here's some pre-dominant factors in becoming a member, you are mature when the games rolling, a bit of fun out of game is never shy, but you must put your serious face on when playing or you won't get far. You must be highly teamwork oriented; cooperative and are Australian or within approx 5 hours of (GMT +10). There is no minimum dedication within the AAF, however a regular check of the forums to show your still with us is required at least weekly unless you apply for leave.

Ok, so how do we operate? The AAF is a squad that focuses on the realistic aspect of game play, whilst sometimes those two terms can be contradictory, we get the best balance possible. We spend at minimum a few hours per month training and completing exercises, making sure we are up to standard, and have our own written doctrine for new recruits to learn upon entry.

What does our training consist of? Our training can run up to 6 hours to properly complete, and is usually distributed over a few nights to ease the load on recruits, and help drill in procedures. It usually runs in the order of:

Navigation
Cam and Concealment
Patrolling
Formations
Target Indications
Contact Drills
Fire and Movement
Basic Section Attack
Break Contact Drills
Obstacle Crossings
Ambushes

The above covers almost all of the practical work, however there is a lot of written material for our recruits to study and understand before they can coherently operate within an AAF unit. All members are also required for basic ArmA 2 skills to complete the following sections of the ArmA 2 Boot Camp:

01. Basic Training
02. Parachute Jump
06. Team

Great, where do I sign up? To become an AAF member, you must first place your entry application on our forums and ensure you have registered, otherwise we will not be able to contact you for induction except via email. Upon processing of your application, you will need to contact a senior member on our team speak channel on the Gaming SA ArmA (2) team speak server; after meeting and assessing your personality, you will begin the selection process, and from the information provided in your application you will be assigned to a unit, a relative position and begin the training appropriate, including the six hour basic infantry training.

If you complete the training without any serious problems, and we are happy with your performance, you will be slotted into your unit and will began playing where they may be deployed.
Upon completion of entry, at any time without posting for official leave you will have 4 weeks maximum inactivity, before you are deemed inactive and removed from the team; to re-deem yourself you will have to speak to the CO and be granted special permissions to rejoin; unless under specific circumstance.

Microphones are required for any communications, and mandatory; a moderate internet connection and good 3D performance is also recommended for solid game play.

Congratulations of the completion of the Basic Training; in Phase I, they have demonstrated competency in the ideas presented to them, and sound examples of this knowledge was demonstrated in the exercises proceeding.

The following members have been promoted to the rank of Private:
    Duke
    Adam
    Gunther
    White Wolf
    Manta-Avoid
    Murdock
    Reaper

Our ORDBAT above has been updated accordingly.
QUOTE
The Australian Armed Forces has seen its first month of duty during the period of 1st of August to the 31st, with a variety of missions on our belt (refer to the After Action Reports.).

Our main weaknesses and fall downs this month was a small lack of organisation out of game, with many members falling [ill, PC-less, injured or otherwise incapable of attending]; whilst this did not stop the game(s) from going ahead however.
Within the game, although expectations must be kept at a certain level due to the low level of training currently undertaken (Modules I truly is the Induction course to the [AAF].), we took high casualties and when the bullets started flying, element commanders fell down on what we all learnt in basic.
I have taken note of this and will be asserting this issue of the following weeks.
Our main aims for September 2008 will be:
  • Organisation under Fire
  • Less Casualties.
  • Marksmanship Module 2
  • Communications
  • Maneouvres Module 2

Whilst this looks like a course list to some, it is in necessity and best interest for the [AAF] to grasp and pertain the knowledge of these courses as soon as possible.

Overall, a very succesfull month, and ultimately, quite fun. happy.gif

Regards,

Sergeant Rommel,
Commanding (Non-commissioned)Officer of the Australian Armed Forces

Signed,
Sergeant Rommel.

The Australian Armed Forces has seen its second month of duty during the period of the 1st of September to the 30th, with a variety of missions on our belt (refer to the After Action Reports.).

Our tour on Sahrani is finally over, we have been moved on elsewhere to a location in central Iraq, named Avgani, in which we will be performing peace keeping operations. With the introduction of addons to the AAF mission detail, this overall, has been a very successful month, and ultimately fun experience.

Regards,
Sergeant Rommel,
Commanding (Non-commissioned)Officer of the Australian Armed Forces

note: First post updated with new ORDBAT.

Australian Armed Forces

Celebrating 8months of duty, and the New Year!

Notes
The Australian Armed Forces began in June 2008, and with the celebration of the New Year can proudly pro-claim itself a incredibly successful and active co-op squad; with its life time enduring up to 8 months of activity. The previous months have seen an interesting turn of events within the AAF; with August came a large boost in AAF numbers. But due to the lack of infrastructure at the time, AAF was unable to sustain this enormous influx of up to 12 members, and many became inactive.
In late September we began various projects engaging in the enhancement of our training, the AAF MOD and our own rented server. We also began the Multi-Session-Operation project. More information on these projects can be found on our forums, to keep this post as brief as possible.

By December we have re-ascertained a large member list including the following members:

DK
Ando
Antipop
Azza
B-C
Bullman
Duke Nukem
Kris
Marty
Monty-B
Rommel
Tank-Commander
TheDoctor
Vass
WhiteWolf
Wiggles

With training exercises for the 6th and three more recruits signing up on New Years Day; 2009 looks to be a promising and exciting year within the AAF.

Happy New Years!

Updated post afresh.

News is that AAF has moved on into the pandemonium of ArmA 2, and is up and running it hitting it hard. Looking for new dedicated and coordinated members who can show us what they're made of, can take slander and are mature.
