1. What is Bush Wars Mod about?
http://armed-assault.net/bushwars/info.html

Bush Wars Mod is based on the South African – Angolan Border War (known as the bushwar). It was a guerrilla type conflict which finally escalated into conventional warfare in the late 1980’s. The Bushwar lasted from 1966 until 1989, a total of 23 years, making it one of Africa's longest conflicts.

The Bushwar was fought in Northern Namibia (former South West Africa), and in Southern Angola - the so-called "Operational Area" or "Border". Sporadic and related skirmishes against Anti-SADF forces occurred throughout the sub-continent in places such as SW Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe (former Rhodesia), Mozambique, Lesotho, Swaziland, former Homelands within the current South Africa; and South Africa itself.

Operation Savannah was the 1st large cross-border operation of the SADF, and the 1st semi-conventional conflict it was involved in since WW2. The purpose of Ops Savannah was to clear Southern Angola of the MPLA presence, and support UNITA to secure the Southern and Eastern part of the country so it could have a winning change in the elections scheduled for 11 November 1975. Amidst the civil war still raging on election day, and the MPLA having driven the opposition out of Luanda, it declared independence on this day. Portugal recognised the independence and Agostinho Neto became the first President. The Angolans and Cuba often claimed that they had driven the SADF out of Angola. The facts however are that the small SADF taskforce advanced a distance of 3000km's into Angola in just 33 days; and was never tasked to take the whole of the country. The SADF would have been able to militarily take the whole of Angola, but it was not in its interest to do so while the UNITA proxy forces could secure the south. Holding the whole country 3-times the size of Iraq, under prolonged military control would not have been possible under the circumstances either. The SADF won all battles and skirmishes apart from the temporary retreat at the battle of Ebo upon which the Cubans and Angolans place their claims. Both the FNLA and UNITA did not recognise the MPLA declared independence, and with covert help form SA and the USA, the civil war raged on.

With the MPLA being backed by the Eastern Block and UNITA by the West, the conflict took on the shade of a Cold War conflict. SA had the secret blessing from the CIA that it will covertly support the SADF operation, but USA ignorance on Angola and Africa, as well as the embarrassment of withdrawal from Vietnam still fresh in American minds, made it pull out of the Operation on 19/12/75 when the USA Senate stopped all anti-MPLA support, leaving SA to fight it alone. UNITA was given a strong foothold with this operation and with ongoing SADF and Western support throughout the Bushwar it remained the dominant freedom movement in South Angola until the end of the Bushwar. The situation in Angola however deteriorated from 1975, plummeting the country into a bitter civil war that lasted until August 2002, well beyond the end of the South African Bushwar.

Cuba started sending military support to Angola as early as 1975. The purpose of the growing Cuban support was Fidel Castro's policy of spreading "popular people's revolution" in 3rd world countries, and after his failure to ignite such revolutions in Latin America, he focused on Africa, where the notorious Che Guevara was also sent in the '60's. By March 1976 there were 36000 voluntary Cuban military personnel in Angola. By 1989 the figure grew to 55000, and an approximate total of 350 000 Cubans did military service in Angola.

South Africa's reasons for involvement in this conflict, was its fight against the liberation movements of SWAPO in Namibia, MPLA in Angola, ANC and PAC in South Africa, FRELIMO in Mozambique, and ZANLA and ZIPRA in Zimbabwe. Apart from the fact that all these liberation movements were supported by the Marxist Eastern Block, the movements fought to get rid of the colonial yoke in the subcontinent.

2. Who is addressed with this Mod ?

The Mod is really addressed to all the people interested in African Warfare theme as well as those interested in using our add-ons to make African war type missions for the community.

We aim to give the community something different as well as an African War experience for the ArmA gamming community. Our add-ons are based on weapons, armour, air and soldiers around the 1980-1989 era of the war. A lot of the models are of actual weapons and armour only seen and used in the Bushwar. We are also making Eastern Block weapons that are not available in the ArmA game eg AK-47, AK-47s, AKM, AKMS, SKS, SKSD etc. as well as older variants of weapons used in Africa.

3. Why open a thread in the BI-Forums?

We decided to create a Mod thread in the forums to create a better exchange with the community as well as to get more detailed and serious feedback from you.

Our goal is to fix and perfect our add-ons by way of feedback from the community. We want everyone to have fun playing with our add-ons in ArmA and maybe for some of you to make missions. Therefore we need you. Up to 400 eye‘s see more than 8 would to help us fix all bugs.
( seeing more at chapter 4 )

We also need some talented modellers which have some experience with modelling.
We know that the community isn‘t that huge but more help means we can create more add-ons quicker and better and meet the higher standards of ArmA.
( see more at chapter 10 )

We won’t open a discussion thread.
The reason is that we think there is nothing to discuss but if you have suggestions you are welcome to offer them at our Mod Forum under the following link:
http://z11.invisionfree.com/BushWars/index.php

4. Where can I report Bugs, Issues and other Add-on specific problems?

We will appreciate everyone reporting their issues and problems with our add-ons in this thread.

A better solution would be if you post your feedback, suggestions etc. in our Home Forums.
You will find our Mod Forum with the following link:
http://z11.invisionfree.com/BushWars/index.php

We will collect all serious entry’s and will adjust/fix the particular add-on/s.

5. Actual status reports

If you search for the most recent news about the mod and its activities please visit our Homepage:
http://armed-assault.net/bushwars/index.html

We ask that you please be patient with the Mod Team, If you don’t find a new update about the Mod every week it does not mean that Mod isn't active.
We’re working hard in the background to complete the add-ons and the mod.

10. Support
http://armed-assault.net/bushwars/recruit.html

As we mentioned before the biggest help is if you report the issues and bugs found in our add-ons to the forum so that we can fix them and finalise the add-ons.
We also need some support/members to actively partake and assist us with the development of this Mod.

What we currently searching for the following.

- 1 skinner ( retextures of existing ArmA add-ons to Angolan military colour schemes )
- 1 coder/scripter ( to develop Scripts/configs specific to Bush Wars Mod )

If you are interested and have O2 modeling experience please email us at bushwars@hotmail.com

Oh my GOD that looks fantastic! biggrin.gif

Posted by: BigglesTrevor Oct 5 2007, 20:30

hey guys great work. Ive noticed one thing with the alouette. When flying the instrument panels are half transparent, the instruements internal textures are still there but i can see terrain through them also. This however might be my graphics card playing up, but i thought id bring it to your intention just in case.

Posted by: Jason Oct 6 2007, 12:49

Hmm. I couldn't see anything through them, just black/dark grey solid gauges. And the panel itself is solid. Do you have a screenshot?

Posted by: BigglesTrevor Oct 6 2007, 13:03

i shall get you one

Posted by: ObmaR Oct 6 2007, 16:24

I am fixing the guages transparency issue. It's my fault, I forgot to add a material (.rvmat) file to the Instrument panel. In the next release v1.7 this will be fixed as well as other bugs reported by the community.
Thank you all for the input, that is why we release beta versions of our add-ons. To get community reports/comments and fix/perfect our add-ons before final release.

Hello,
I'm the new member Zippo from the Bush Wars Conflict Mod.
I wanted to show my work of the AK47, and maybe one of you have things that I should change.

http://imageshack.us
http://g.imageshack.us/g.php?h=528&i=ak47oy8.jpg

Posted by: rymac Oct 16 2007, 12:49

well its looks good but maybe the colours are a bit bright?

Posted by: D@V£ Oct 16 2007, 13:00

Like rymac said, the colours are far to bright, also, the stock looks a bit off, maybe you change the way it's mapped?
And I just noticed, shouldn't the magazine be black? I know some magazines are that colour, but it's a lot more common for them to be black (especially the ones used in south africa)

Also, it seems the tip of the barrel is the wrong shape for the '47, compare it to this picture: http://world.guns.ru/assault/akm.jpg

Posted by: Z-i-p-p-o Oct 16 2007, 13:33

Hi,
The Picture you showed me is an picture from an AKM. For the AK47 is the start of the barrel right.

I took now, another wood type, how it is now.

http://imageshack.us

Posted by: Jimboob Oct 16 2007, 14:05

Might wanna lower the magazine's brightness too.

Posted by: Helping Hand Oct 16 2007, 15:22

Also AKMs are much more common nowdays compared to the ooriginal.

Posted by: JdB Oct 16 2007, 16:22

"Grrr" at everyone for not reporting this topic since we already have an existing (and now stickied) Bush Wars mod thread rolleyes.gif

Topics now merged.

Posted by: Z-i-p-p-o Oct 16 2007, 19:28

Now are high Quality Textures on the model smile.gif

I hope you all like it

(The Picture takes my a while to load, its an foreign upload service this time)

[im]http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9721/hochvn4.png[/img] OVER 100KB

Posted by: Linker Split Oct 16 2007, 22:18

hmm, you should work on the wood texture, IMO they are too shining... maybe the colour... really IMO smile.gif

Posted by: JdB Oct 16 2007, 22:20

Z-i-p-p-o, please do not post images over 100kb in size directly, but rather use a hyperlink to point to their location.

QUOTE
§12) No images are to be posted in the English section that exceed 100kb's filesize.

Posted by: communistbastard Oct 17 2007, 01:01

Way too bright on the Ak-47 mag! Also aren't the magazines color black by default?

Posted by: Rellikki Oct 17 2007, 06:16

I'm with Linker here. The wood could use more work. Maybe add shadows at the bottom parts or something... Or make it look more 'woodish'. At the moment, it looks kinda... cartoonish and flat.

QUOTE

You can have a plastic-covered magazine like that on an AK-47, but mostly they're black, metal, so I'd also prefer those, instead of the current one.

Posted by: communistbastard Oct 17 2007, 07:37

Also I think in the Vilas addon mod the have an Ak-47 model, you could ask him for his models I guess to save you modders time, I think he stated in a thread in the BIS forums, that he is glad to let people use his models/stuff as long as credit is given where credit is due!

And to rellikki, I just thought it was so strange, I lived in Moscow once, and whenever I saw AK's for the most part they always metal magazines.

Posted by: Z-i-p-p-o Oct 17 2007, 10:43

@Commybastard
What I should do with Vilas Model. I have my own has more details as his.

So, now I have made an update.

Just klick on the picture to make it bigger.

Posted by: Flyer Oct 17 2007, 10:48

This one is looking good with that magazine.

Posted by: Linker Split Oct 17 2007, 22:44

yeah it's way much better now smile.gif

Posted by: Rellikki Oct 24 2007, 10:37

Looks good, but the wood texture could still use some work...
How about a closer look picture of it?

Posted by: ObmaR Nov 1 2007, 04:41

Ok guys a little update. The Pumas are taking a bit longer than I thought. I will release 2 versions.
1. The AS330 PUMA version in Fire Force/COIN configuration with an FNMAG mounted on port side and capacity for 12 soldiers and 3 crew.
2. The South African uprated version of the PUMA named the ORYX in a CASAVAC/Search and Rescue configuration. Capacity 6 soldiers, 4 wounded, 2 crew. (Injured can heal at heli as well as arm and rearm). I am looking for a winch script to use with the ORYX. If anyone knows of such a script please inform us.
Here is a screen of the PUMA before I start applying normal maps and fresnel glass. Will also add proper damage extures and wear and tear.
This one is in the colours of the SAAF no 19 Squadron (1984)

I am including a hi res internal texture for the PILOT VIEW and will include animated cargo doors and wheels. The FNMAG version will include 2000 rounds of 7.62mm and an FNMAG I specialy made for the PUMA.

Cockpit is nearly done. I have started painting the panel as I was waiting for a South African pilot who sent me detailed photos of the Panel, here is a screen...

The Puma will have all working instrumentation. The following screen is a cut away showing actual panel detail..

Will anounce a release date within the next 2 weeks after we've beta tested and fixed all bugs. Will also release the final version of the Alouette IIIs

Posted by: Rellikki Nov 1 2007, 12:20

Looks really good! thumbsup.gif Can't wait to try it out...

Posted by: NBSVieiraPT Nov 2 2007, 01:58

Same here smile.gif
I love working with this mod. Also, count on new mission releases after the PUMA releases wink.gif

Posted by: pMASTER Nov 3 2007, 13:13

Very promising stuff, keep up the good work!

Posted by: Wittmann Nov 4 2007, 03:54

Impressive!

Posted by: Linker Split Nov 4 2007, 10:26

can you explain me hot to make a proper glass RVMAT?
I'm stuck at the procedural mode... what parameters, and if it needs either NOHQ or NOF (or the others)...

Posted by: Raptor Nov 11 2007, 20:16

We announce the second bad chapter in our mod history.
We have decide as a team to break ties with our "ex-Member" Zippo and have nothing to do with this individual.

The Reason is that Zippo isn't that unknown in the ArmA community.
In the last week it seems that someone hacked our forums and prentend to be a part of the BHD Mod.

After several conversations with team leaders and other people in the community some interesting facts and info came to light about this member. I detected the fact that this person who pretend to be someone else and who has been spamming and flamming the community is the same person nicknamed Zippo.

In the past he terrorized several Forums and community pages, the last action was @ hx3 forums and armedassault.info forums mostly under the nickname, Stryker.

He used multiple Accounts to confuse the admins and people.
He acted very offensively by flaming and trolling the people, site staff and admins there.
We unfortunately have also been taken by surprise by this person.

We therefore anounce that this person is no longer a member of Bush Wars Mod and asked you be aware of this individual on your forums and sites to be on the safe side for your own community.
This person terrorized several ArmA communities, spam, flame and troll their.

used nicknames: Zippo, Z-i-p-p-o, Stryker, Str4ker, BOA_Kamel, GOF_Gordon, Streuner, Bufferin (BHD) (not the real Bufferin from BHD mod, but an attempt to imitate him)
IP: 87.185.119.***
Mod: BOA Mod.

//Edit by JdB
Please don't post exact IP addresses, even for people that do things like this. We have found out that in the 6 years of existence of the OFP.info forums, no one has ever used the 87.185.***.*** IP range besides BOA members. If you find a person using these first two parts, then please keep an eye on him, as we believe this range to be in private of BOA mod.
//End of edit

We also want to apologise us to the BHD Mod team for the trouble.

Kind Regards
Bush Wars Mod

Send me your email to bushwars@hotmail.com and I will send you a specular glass .rvmat file with instructions and textures and will explain how to implement it. Its basicaly an .rvmat with a procedural texture and a second .rvmat file with a second pass. Once you see how it is done you will be able to implement it with all your models using the same .rvmat file.

Ok guys I am finally reaching the completion stages of our PUMAs had to change a couple of texture art after looking at FALCON 1's pic hope I do justice to the PUMAs with this add-on. Here are a couple of screens prior to finalising the normal maps and binarizing the add-on.

PUMA AS330L with side mounted FNMAG in the Fire Force/COIN configuration. With the tube filters. 2 crew, 1 gunner and 12 passangers

Detail screen of FNMAG and gunner position

PUMA AS330C general utility CASAVAC/REARM configuration. This one I made with the special dust filters developed by South Africa and fitted on most PUMAs operating in SWA (Namibia) after 1982

ORYX this one is in the Search and Rescue/General Utility Configuration. The ORYX is a South African Uprate of the PUMA AS330L with some minor alterations and dome radar utility.

I have included a winch and am hoping that someone can develope a script for us. Maybe we will become the first mod with something new and inovative like a proper working winch.

So far I can get the winch to extend down to about 30 meters ingame. It is a model animation and am hoping that a proper script will make the simulation appear more realistic

Panoramic view of the cockpit, need to complete a few things but all instruments are working

Cargo view screen just to give a general feeling of what it will feel like ingame.

NOTE: the ingame resolution is much higher and more detailed than in the O2 tool. The Pumas look almost real in the game.

Hopefully by the weekend I will have it ready for the team to test so I can fix all the bugs. Note the lovely shadows, I finally found out what the trick was. Once testing starts I will complete the pilots properly as FALCON 1 sent me all the info I needed. So we will have proper pilot models with the Star Pistol and the R4 rifle. Will be releasing the add-on to the public 1st week of December once the pilots are done, Raptor has made the new readme files and NBSVieiraPT and Rellikki have made a sample mission....

Im thinking of helping you if its still needed , but I wanna finish my Gravity gun also stupid.gif
PM is you still need help.

short info:
Our website is unavailable due to the Armed-Assault.de/net Servers being down. We are waiting for the admins to fix the problem and put their servers back online.
That could take some time maybe until the weekend.
We are hoping to have our website back online by Sunday the 2nd December.

Maybe we have a little surprise for you then.

That can take some time maybe until the weekend.
But we try to get the page as fast as possible back to you.

Maybe we have a little surprise to you than.

Finally after quite a long delay due to the problems with our previous hosts and the changeover to armedassault.info Obmar has been able to start releasing some of our Add-ons to showcase our work. We will have a beta version of our Mini-Map teaser Island "Cuito Cuanavale" early in February as Ebud still has quite a lot of work to do. In the meantime Obmar will be releasing quite a few add-ons which will form part of our Mini-Mod release in May. The next release will be the completely remade Alouette III add-on after that Obmar will be releasing some soldier units and our weapons pack. We will be uploading beta missions made by PETROVIC STUDIOS to test the add-ons within the next 2 weeks. Obmar has a bit of free time coming up so will be catching up on a lot of add-on making.

After quite a lot of testing and numerous texture edits we are releasing the first batch of add-ons. First up is the South African Airforce Aerospatiale Puma SA330 version.

The Puma 330C in the CASEVAC configuration with the "Box" airfilters used in South West Africa (Namibia) border region. The Puma (CASEVAC) has 1 x pilot, 1 x copilot, 2 x stretchers for wounded and 8 places for troops (4 sitting shotgun in doorways)

The Puma 330L in the FIREFORCE configuration with FNMAG 7,62mm machine gun for suppressive fire support. The Puma (FNMAG) has 1 x pilot, 1 x copilot, 1 x gunner, 10 x places for troops.

Obmar has completely remade the South African Helicopter pilots and added some custom animations. The pilots include the Elno 316 helmet and the Pat.82 type survival jacket with under arm pistol holster. A big thank you goes to UNN who scripted and tested all the animations, script work in SP and MP games. Pilots can holster and unholster pistol as well as raise and lower visor.

This is the new version of our Star 9mm pistol. Obamr has fixed some texture and Normal map problems as well as removed the tracer effects. Includes a slide and magazine animation.

Obamr has also extensively reworked the Alouette II add-on as well as fixed the shadow problems. Rotor blur effects are now visible via proxies this solved the shadow problems. Added 2 new shadow lods so that proper shadows are cast. Fixed problem with instrument panel, now all instruments are animated and working.

The Bush War Mod Team wants to make an appeal to all our readers on behalf of BlueDingo who is looking for voice actors that can speak Portuguese, Afrikaans and Spanish. Please visit our forum for more details regarding a Voice project for the mod

We are sorry for the delays in releasing our add-ons earlier but most of the delays where not our fault and beyond our control. Hopefully this year things will move along much faster while we prepare for the main Mod Release in ArmAII

very high quality stuff there guys... wink.gif I love the alouette! biggrin.gif

Here is a little ingame screen preview before I release the Alouette IIIs on Monday night. I have gone into a lot of detail and have tried to keep them as true to the originals as possible. I have fixed all the bugs with this complete remake of the add-on. It includes shattered glass penetrable by bullets so occupants can now get killed by gunfire.

I am also preparing a mini-tutorial which I will post in the tuts section on how to implement and script the Glass Damage animation (sklo predni L, sklo predni P) and bullet proof/ bullet penetration in ArmA. It is quite an inigma and not much explained anywhere as all those who have tried will know what I mean. Its quite simple to implement as there is a method of doing it by Component Convex Hull the model in the FIRE Geometry LOD and Make Convex of the glass component (sklo predni L/P) seperately. Tut will be up by Tuesday night.

The Alouette III AS316/B in Search & Rescue configuration with wench. I will add a wench script at a later stage when it is completed.

The K-car Gunship version with 20mm Ga1 cannon includes AP and HE rounds. The most prominent feature of the K-car was the specialy developed Heat shield around the turbine which vented the exhaust gasses up towards the rotors. This minimised the heatsignature of the helicopter making it difficult for the Russian SAMs to lock onto target. I have implemented this feature with the add-on. Ingame you cannot lock on to the K-car with a Stinger or any Surface to Air missile.

The G-car version with 7.62mm FNMAG for FireForce and COIN operations

The Missile Gunship version with 2 X AS12 Stand-of-Missiles. Includes a laser designator with a 2000 meter LOS to target. I have tried to keep it as original as possible (from limited available photos) and have included the South African Manufactured Missile Guidence System. Only 2 versions where ever made and used Operationaly in Angola by the SAAF.

Okay guys.

A lot of people have been waiting a long time for this... And after some hard work and very long hours, the Bushwars Mod team is happy to announce:

The public release of our South African Defence Force and SWAPO soldier packs!

QUOTE(Obmar)
In 1965 the first infiltration by armed insurgents of PLAN (People's Liberation Army of Namibia) took place over the border of Southern Angola/Ovamboland, and set in motion what was to become a war lasting 23 years and ultimately involving not only Namibians and South Africans, but also Angolans, Cubans, Russians and Americans.

The SADF would bring new weapons into service, improve transport in the form of mine-protected vehicles, and establish new units of specialist forces which included Bushman trackers, cavalry units and elite units such as the "Recces" and "Pathfinders". Black units were also formed and few could have foreseen at that time that the remnants of the FNLA force which failed so badly at Luanda would later, under the leadership of the renowned Col. Jan Breytenbach, form one of the most feared units of the entire war - "32 Battalion", also known as the "Buffalo Battalion". The standard of training of the Angolan Army also improved significantly under the influence of the Cubans, however, and they provided a haven on the Angolan side of the border for SWAPO.

External or cross-border operations by the SADF against both SWAPO and FAPLA became commonplace. Almost every year saw a new major operation take place, up till the last days of the war which ended in 1989.

We are pleased to release the first batch of soldier units. A big thank you to ASZ and CimaleX for the modification and textures and the months of work put into the soldier models. Falcon1 applied the final touches to the SADF soldier pack. Our team member SAAF developed a script for the SADF Mortar Platoon which enables them to pack and carry the M3 mortar and place the mortar for fire support missions. We have tried to keep the soldiers as realistic as possible and FALCON1 did everything possible to keep them authentic with the pat67 and pat82 webbing.

The pack includes a variety of soldiers from a SADF Colonel to a crew member. All the weapons are from our custom weapons pack.

The M3 81mm mortar was made with the SADF troop pack in mind. After suggestions and extensive testing by Ou Matroos, SAAF modified and implemented the Real Artillery Mod scripts by Jones. This gives the mortar platoon a realistic capability of firing indirect rounds during game fire missions.

More hard work by ASZ and CimaleX. This time its the SWAPO/PLAN soldier pack.

The People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN), SWAPO's military wing. In 1966, the South-West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) began guerrilla attacks on South Africa, infiltrating the territory from bases in Zambia. After Angola became independent in 1975, SWAPO established bases in the southern part of the country. Hostilities intensified over the years, especially in Ovamboland. SWAPO tactics followed that of the Warsaw Pact armies during the cold war, as members were trained in Russia, East Germany, Tanzania (under Eastern Block command), etc. Armed groups ranging from a handful to several hundred, armed with light weapons such as AK 47's, MG's, RPG 7's, mines, etc. operated from SWAPO bases deep inside Angola. These groups infiltrated SWA during the rainy season (due to scarcity of water in the semi-desert region), and conducted terror activities against the SADF and local population. Terror activities included ambushes, mining of roads, terrorising local population supporting the SADF, recruiting new Plan members (sometimes forcefully), etc. SWAPO/PLAN suffered about 11400 casualties during the Bush War 1966-1989.

Soldiers wear variations of the different cammo schemes, the most common one being the East German "Rice Pattern" . All weapons are from our custom weapons pack.

Next week we will add the FAPLA, 32 Battalion and SADF Parachute Brigades commonly referred to as the "Parabats". The Ovamboland island is also near completion. So we are working towards a mini-mod teaser release with missions by CimaleX before ArmAII is released.

Enjoy! thumbsup.gif

Outstanding work! I love this conflict and these addons have been a blast to use. The Tonal island pack was my favorite addon for Flashpoint and I have high hopes for Bush Wars to do the same for Arma. Now all we need is an island and we can start making basic missions... worship.gif
