Hi. I can't seem to recall having any censorship on the OFP.info forum (liek this: feck hmmsmiley02.gif ). Was this option deliberatly enabled or is it set on default? Not that I want to curse the whole time, but sometimes a quote from a movie or something including the word "f*ck" gets censored too, which is pretty annoying if you ask me.

QUOTE
Adding some bad word filters and updated some ban settings, WBs abck to 20% blocks, some user names banned so they cant register under them (Hitler, ect) Old banned email acocunts from OFP.info brought over but not IPs...

Only 2 words modified under bad word filter as one is considered very offensive (Though one in frequent use by myself) and the other also and Im sure we say it all too much but hey, you get the gist tongue.gif

Since the sad fact is some irresponsible parents will let their children get their hands on ArmA I felt we should do something and also to make the forum a friendlier place, these are very offensive words and they are modified only slightly bar one, last count 5 words had been modified.

They include 'Feck' and its derivatives and 'Cunning Stunt', as well as f*g and f*ggot merely because these words are often used by flamers and only flamers in its use on the forums Ive noticed....

You can say shit all you want tongue.gif

edit: rofl.gif nice filters. Seem to be working well smile.gif BTW i agree. It will make the forums seem nicer without all the swearing. At the end of the day we'll know what feck means anyways smile.gif

As for Cunning Stunt, I believe its an eloquent and witty way to say it without saying it laugh.gif

As for the one for fa**ot the reason this has been done instead of just modifying is is because, as I said, in the info forums I only EVER saw his word be implemented to flame someone and thought that would surprise and embarrass them ad allow me to have a chuckle before hitting the big 'ole ban button ^^

So while swearing isn't banned, it stops those whining and the kids from actually seeing to much of it, and we all know what it is and c'mon, feck isn't that far removed wink.gif For some reason the admin's over-ride the filters so I gotta be careful tongue.gif

As I said its only for the words considered to be 'most offensive' in the English language, Shit and bastard, bitch all the rest, even 'Cervo' are still here since I don't want to go over the top like some communities do where even DAMN is a swear word...tongue.gif

so i cant say, ill brb im going for a fig? or im going to go boil some faggots for tea. bah! political correctness. if somone wants to use swear words let them, if they use them in an offencive manner mods will come down on them anyway. swear words are used for humour and to send a strong message, not just for insults.

lol fig, yes im going for a fig, i smoke trenson and wedges you see. sorry to come across in this manner but im a cynic on this type of cencorship.

Well I agree with Biggles. And if you have to censor the f-word, please censor it with f*ck and not feck. Feck just looks so stupid.

Well Ive changed it to f*ck since no one could apparently stand feck and actually cares about how a swear word looks after it ceases to be a swearword....

Unfortunately, this is the problem, a lot of the users we will get or have got are just BOYS...who shouldn't HAVE the game int he first place but they find ways.

Besides, Im sure you heathens can accept a little decorum in this forum.

but words like f*g are really just an american insult, and americans here are really in the minority. i could name alot of british insults that havnt been blocked. it all just seems a little needless. but i guess it does keep the forum a nicer place so...... smile.gif

Thats because the British are more civilised and their nasty words are not as offensive as those ones the rather crass Yanks have, for instance bugger is not something that one considers offensive...

Loads of people where I'm from say 'f*g', including myself. But we don't say it in an offensive way, and it's confined to friendship's in a playful manner. But generally, there's no need for it not to be censored on the forum, it's harder to tell whether someone's being serious in text.

The problem is, it might be ok in your view, but not in another person's view. For example, a greeting from a town nearby sounds very much like "Alright c*nt". Which, to an outsider sounds extremely offensive, but to them, it is just a greeting. To me, calling someone a f*g would incite offense. In a forum where different cultures co-exist, it is better and safer not to call anyone anything, just incase.
