The Special Air Service Module or SASMOD, aim is to create realistic and authentic UK Special Forces units, weapons, vehicles and equipment for ArmA.

With quite a few years real life military experience behind our project our ultimate aim is a high level of accuracy on all content developed.

Some units you can expect to see form us are the Special Air Service, her sister unit the SBS, the Special Forces Support Group and Special Reconnaissance Regiment.

We will also be providing these units with all the weapons and equipment the would use on ops around the globe.

In addition to models themselves we are also planning on creating realistic terrain based on real world locations derived from Digital Elevation Models imported into the Engine.

The project is not a full modification of ArmA, but rather an addon module containing everything you need to experience life as a UK special forces soldier without having to pass selection!

You can visit the SASMOD here:

http://sasmod.ofpcentral.co.uk/

Our website really only acts as a front with basic info on our project, to keep upto date on our progress you should really check in on the forums.

http://sasmod.ofpcentral.co.uk/forum/index.php

You can also read a recent interview made by Armed Assault Zone on the SASMOD project here::

Recruitment..

Do think you can dedicate some of your spare time developing SASMOD content for Armed Assault?

I am currently looking for dedicated people who can work together as a team creating realistic UKSF addons for Armed Assault.

What am I looking for in a team member?

Potential team members dont have to be skilled texture artist or model makers to join, what I am looking for is someone who is dedicated to the project and will go to great lengths to acheive the very best they can with their given project. If that means learning how to use O2 or Visitor along the way then so be it.

I am also looking for someone who behaves maturely and can be trusted. Becoming a team member means you will gain access to restricted parts of the forum where you will come across work not yet released to the public, I need to trust that what you see stays within the team.

Do I need prior editing knowledge?

Obviously prevous experience is preferable but its not essential. I dont expect all applicants to know the tools of the trade but, if your dedicated and enthusiastic enough to learn as you go along then you may have what I`m looking for.

What positions are available?

Currently I am looking to recruit for the following positions:

Modeler/Texturer
Island editor x1

Modeler/Texturer

The modelers/texturers will be responsible for creating 3D models, as well as creating and applying the textures.

The positions could be split if you can only model and not texture, or only texture but not model etc.

Island Editor

Will be responsible for future SASMOD Islands. Experience working with DEMs is prefered but not essential, this can be taught/learned at a later date.

How do I apply?

Simply make a post in the recruitment section of the forums, or if you wish applications can be sent direct to me through a PM.

Please try to indicate the position you are applying for in the topic name for ease of reference.

Here is a guide to how to submit your application. Simply copy and paste the form into a new post in the recruitment thread.

Note: Not all questions need answering, some just help us build up a picture of you. It would be helpfull to answer all though wink.gif All questions highligted with a red asterix (*) should definately be answered.

Yeah Dale at Lost Soldiers asked if we could team up and work together, I have helped them with some reference and detail on one of their addons but I think our different approaches to the task would lead to difficulties eventually down the line. I am looking forward to seeing thier British stuff in ArmA though.

I am also aware that UKF will no doubt be producing content for ArmA. I used to be military advisor and 2D/3D artist at UKF so I am hoping we can work together and make sure there is no overlap of addons.

As for screenies, I will get some out when I feel we have something descent to show. I dont want to just show a screenshots of stuff at such an early stage. My aim is for very high quality and accurate addons. I am sure you appreciate these take time. Some sites will show screenshots of addons as soon as the addon resembles what it is supposed to be - they then face post after post of people telling them how it should look laugh.gif

I will discuss with my current team if we should post some shots of work from past projects, I dont want to compromise any work we have in the pipeline.

As I think I mentioned, the webiste is thier really only a front for us, it give info on the aims of SASMOD as well as info on ArmA, OFP, VBS etc. If you want to keep upto date with the progress please see the forums (you will find some of my unfinished VBS work in their). The forums are far easier to update than the webiste

Thanks for your interest everyone wink.gif

Yeah definately, having multiple gunner postitions opens a whole new world of options for vehicles like that smile.gif

RE: my warn level 10%

mmm, this is the first warning I have ever recieved in an OPF/VBS/ArmA forum in the last 5 or so years, not a good sign of things to come here.

Will you be making SAS units in other schemes than desert too? From the website, it looks like you're specially making SAS units and stuff in afghan / desert / whatever scheme. Some woodland units and vehicles would be very good, since there are so many desert schemed mods in progress already and Armed Assault itself is already so desertish... tiredsmiley.gif Soon the sand will come out of my ears!!

Yes mate, both temperate and desert DPM will be made and also a mix of both (on one unit).

There will also be an assortment of non military clothing thrown in too.

just wondering how far you intend to go with veicles. SAS often use Hercules's, Lynx's and Gazelle's for insertion and extraction. are any of those planned?

also it would be great to see somone make some SBS units. blues.gif smile.gif

SBS are planned and hopefully we should be able to better portray an SBS role with some of teh new features we have now available in ArmA like swimming.

As for the vehicles, we are mainly concentrating on actual UK special forces vehicles themsleves and not att`s and det`s.

Hercs, chinooks and a wide range of other aircraft are used to insert Special forces however they are not something we will be looking at creating ourselves.

we will be mainly concentrating on the core fighting units and all equipment they would use, then we will be moving onto methods of insertion.

That said, it does at this minute look like our first release will be a vehicle, what type of vehicle? you will have to wait for an announcment wink.gif

As we are currently a very small team we are aiming to create a special forces element that will cmpliment other UK addons in ArmA, who knows if the team grows over time we could move onto creating the aircraft and all other supporting arms too.

Thanks for your interest smile.gif

Maybe i didn't read well enough but what are your plans for making missions/campaigns?
Don't they need to be in a MOD, or is that the difference between modification and total conversion?

Sounds like a great mod - it would be awesome to see addons that could represent the SBS from Afghanistan during the Qala-iJanghi prison uprising would make for some fun scenario's.

Are you planning on making purely 'uniform' soldiers or having soldiers with 5.11 vests/civilian looking attire etc ?

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

@Gielovic

We will be making missions varying from training ex`s to real ops, all based closley on what UKSF are involved in (obviously) and using realisitic breifings and orders. The misions building process is something we are going to work on overtime as our addons are being developed, missions are no good without addons so they are not a big priority atm but we are discussing them wink.gif

@Spetsnaz

I will be making covert and non-green ops unit too, so my units will include those of a simialr style to what the SBS wore in AFG at the Qala-I-janghi seige plus a mixture of both civi and military uniform. Many pictures of the SBS in AFG espeically from the Naka valley OP`s show units wearing much more DPM than civi kit. As in real life I want to produce as many variations as possible.

Thanks for your interest smile.gif

After many requests on here and other sites for us to show some of our projects, we have decided to show some images of our early work.

These are still very much work in progress and are subject to substantial change but we thought it was about time we got some images out to the public.

The images are only basic renders in Maya I have just started learning how to use it, you will notice also that the images are reverse, and technical hitch after importing from O2.

Here are a few weapons we are planning on releasing.

G36 - very early O2 shot

WIP_G36.jpg

M82 - render, model donated to my UKSP project by Sniper_skull

L96 Model PM Sniper Rifle

WIP_L96_3.jpg
WIP_L96_4.jpg

CWS/KITE Night Sight

WIP_CWS.jpg
WIP_CWS_2.jpg
WIP_CWS_3.jpg

The next few sets of images are going to raise some eyebrows as to the feasibility of having the m in a Special Forces project so I will explain

FV432 APC

This is going to be a static model to be used on our planned Copehill Down FIBUA village. The real village has a FV432 with MG turret as a target on a Molotov cocktail target range; I also have a 432 model with MG turret that I will be using.

Please note this model is an old model that I was making when working at UKF, so there are still parts of it that I recognise as UKF property (GPMG and road wheels)

WIP_432.jpg
WIP_432_2.jpg
WIP_432_3.jpg

Cobra/Longline Light Strike Vehicle

This is a project that I have a very personal interest in, the LSV was never used in actual combat ops by the SAS, but was deployed and trailed in Gulf War 1. I have collected allot of info form many sources on this and although not an accurate portrayal of what today’s UKSF are using, I think this could add some fun factor to the MOD. UKSF currently have similar vehicles on trial to cope with the harsh terrain of Afghanistan and Iraq so, the project may not be as unrealistic as first thought.

This model is actually the second version, the first was too low poly and I personally thought that ArmA could cope with a higher poly model so I am completely remaking it.

WIP_LSV_2.jpg
WIP_LSV_3.jpg

Hope you like what I have been working on so far, now we have a professional modeller on the team I am hoping updates will not be as long in coming in future.
