I got a question to you:
I took music from few games and mods. Now I want to put it into ArmA and - after some time - to release it.
Will it be legal if I release them prepared for missionmaking and in credits saying who made every track step by step? Do I have to ask for the permission? (writing to xxx people can be frustrating -.-)
What is your opinion?

What you're gonna do? Just release a bunch of music files?

If it is commercial music, it is not allowed, and the chance of obtaining permission is tiny.
If it is non commercial music, but not with an open source license, you need to obtain permission.
If it is non commercial music that is open source (there are several different kinds of open source licenses though), it can be used without obtaining permission.

Crediting is required in all 3 situations, but does not mean you don't have to obtain permission before making your work available to the public.

No, I am just working on addon and I want o add soundtrack. I am not taking any money of that and I want some music from eg. Blood Diamont put with my addon when its released.
Do I need permission of that? WHat about FFURs and music replacements? They probably didnt have licences.

Yes, you do. And good luck on getting permission, since Blood Diamond i.e. was made by Warner, the company famous for being the most vigorous over preventing any of it's content being used outside of it's own products out of all entertainment producing companies.

And no, those OFP projects more than likely didn't obtain permission/a license, but that excuse won't prevent them from ripping you a new one in court.

Hmm, what what would happen if I release it anyway or just for few people? I mean "If you want soundtrack please PM me".

After some thinking, I found one thing: When missionmakers use as soundtrack for one of their mission music from other source (like movie or game) is it also infringement?

There are a lot of people who don't seem to care (because they're communists or twats... usually the latter), and a lot of sites don't have time to check every file to see if it infringes on copyright.

biggrin.gif! I know my view is far from being legally acurate, but if your not making money out of using it i dont see a problem. The law holds a different view. Like D@ve said, your unlikely to be checked up and even less likely to be prosecuted by anyone, this is the internet afterall, there are much bigger and more tropical copyright infringements out there to take care of.
