Well I tried coming on out of the woodwork to try and get an operational install of Armed Assault since I bought it months ago. It worked up until I built a new computer 2 months after I bought the game.
System Specs: ·AMD Phenom 9.9 64bit Black Edition ·8GB DDR2 1066 ·ATI HD 4870x2 ·Windows Server 2008 - While they say it's "not supported" I know that Server 2008 R1 is Vista 64bit Based and have been able to get nearly everything working on this platform as does on vista without issue. The problems I am still getting refer to the fact that even patch 1.15 did not allow for me to run in full screened mode. I get the infamous "black screen". Previous to this patch I was at least able to get to the grey/white with everything else black start page. Now it's just staying black. When run in Compatibility Mode, XP S2, RA Administrator, still same results. Only working mode is "-window" however even when using "-x=1920 -y=1200" I still get an 800x600 window. A real pathetic way to play the game if you ask me. So.. Any reason why a patch made specializing in this particular issue fail? |

I dont see how patch 1.15 is responsible for that.
You could try doing this: Go to "mydocuments/arma/arma.cfg" and open that with notepad. Change the resolution there This is mine. CODE language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=12000.000000; Resolution_W=1280; Resolution_H=1024; Resolution_Bpp=32; refresh=60; FSAA=0; HDRPrecision=8; lastDeviceId="4318,401,578492913"; localVRAM=794083328; nonlocalVRAM=258998271; winX=0; winY=0; winW=1280; winH=997; winDefW=1280; winDefH=1024; You may only need to change these to fit your resolution, or a few other ones as well. Like so. CODE Resolution_W=1920;
Resolution_H=1200; -------------------- My Armed Assault Youtube page.

It'd be nice if you tried out Supr3me KiLL3r's proposal. Problems with SLI-styled video card systems arise quite often and I'd like to have some solutions collected for other folks who experience them.

Some of you may not be familiar with the hardware. A ATI HD 4870x2 is a single card, ATI and NOT Nvidia, so if I had multiple cards it would be Crossfire not SLI. Just to clear it up.. And yes.. the W/H settings are in the arma.cfg as you suggested. I am not about to butcher an entire computer to f' with my ram values. Point being no one, not even you guys who already did it, should ever have to use outdated drivers, drop performance, or any of that "workaround" bs to play a game. If it means I cannot play til Arma 2, or even worse they screw that one up as well, then I guess I am out of luck. I dunno but since it seems that the 1.15 was the "final patch" then I'm screwed til at least 3rd Quarter. I might be mistaken but I've read that both 1.14 and 1.15 are supposed to address large ram issues and Vista issues. I doubt its my actual video drivers as this card worked on an older XP 64bit system my gf now has for Armed Assault 1.14. So since both are listed on sites for addressing the >3 GB ram, and both present the same exact issue, I am guessing they didn't exactly fix it, and released with "it's a beta". That's why I wrote "SLI-styled", I wasn't able to recall ATI's designation for the combination of two devices right then. -------------------- |

but doesn't the ATI HD 4870x2 still have the same issues as SLI/Crossfire setups because it is two GPUs? (even if it is only one card)

Agreed, many people would really need it (like myself). Sorry for being off-topic. |
