Is it just me or are there other ppl out there that are frustrated with the current situation.
I Just saw that there is a WIP of french DF units on the way for ArmA2, but ArmA 1 misses out coz the ppl quit. How dissapointing. My favourite mod, the BW mod hasnt released anything since a 42MB dwnld for a UH1 and a Weasle. I want the rest of it, including a tiger UHT model and German MiG 29's BO 105's and all the rest of it. French tigres, transel 160's and all the other awesome models from OpFp. Why are ppl suddely bypassing ArmA 1 when not everyone has the money to just go out and buy a new game all of a sudden. I like ArmA one, and I still want to play it, if I could mod Id make them myself, but I dont, so can someone give me some decent answers??????

I hear you, bro! Not everyone wants to play arma-2.
My copy of arma-2 went right back to the shop where it came from - a bad game in all respects. And so it's arma-1 forever! This post has been edited by bulkington80: Jul 8 2009, 14:45 -------------------- Good guys play ArmA-1

Some answers:
1) Addon making for one game takes a large investment in those involved's personal time, you are essentially doubling that when you want the same content in two games. Some people rightly do not or cannot invest that amount of time in what seems to be an often unapreciated venture. 2) The people "bypassing" ArmA1 may like ArmA2, maybe more than ArmA1. They have no obligation to meet the demands of the community nor do they have to run their projects in a manner that suits those who cannot afford to or do not want to go out and buy a new game. Also, as a new member to these boards I advise reading the rules, posting a useful title is also generally accepted practice. -------------------- Never before in the history of man, was so much buggered up by so few.

It's true that "Addon making for one game takes a large investment in those involved's personal time" so why won't they make addons for ArmA-1 only?

Some thoughts,
1. Perhaps Jynx(?) is right, as a new commer to these boards maybe I should just not try and ask questions. I could read the rules or I could not, Im pretty sure I wasnt out of line. so maybe as a tip, you should try not to treat ppl like imbesiles . Its a fair question and rightly so. If you look at the ArmA's predecesor, OPF, the list of awesome addons is limitless. I have some crazy good addons for that game. ArmA is in its infancy and making and modding for ArmA 2, which is even more infant is rediculous. When ArmA is also more proven and alot of comments directed to ArmA2 are not as great. I am not so nieve to realise the amount of time required to mod, as Ive previously stated if I could I would, and I am frequently greatful to those involved who churn out worthy efforts. all I was trying to get at was that there seems to be a lack of interest in ArmA, when its still a young game. Its like making mods to run when you aint learnt to walk |

Nah, let's not fool ourselves - the game is pretty much dead at this point. I'd be surprised to see something interesting for ArmA-1 anytime soon.
But I do agree with you. -------------------- Good guys play ArmA-1

No where did I say you shouldn't ask questions, as a moderator/admin deemed fit to correct your thread title it is clear you made a minor mistake.
Nor at any point did I respond in such a manner as if I were treating you like an imbicile. If you believe I was, please, by all means report it to a moderator and let them decide. You ask for possible answers to your questions then throw a hissy fit when somebody does so, which is just a waste of time imho so I hope you understand if I'm being a little frank here. At the end of the day the addon makers will make addons for the games they themselves like more not which game has been around longer, not which game has been proven but which game they like. If you want addons for ArmA1 go talk to the mod teams your wanting them from. -------------------- Never before in the history of man, was so much buggered up by so few.

Yes, look at BF Vietnam - a new big mod was relizd for this game a few weeks ago. And that game is OLD.
Or the 1st Stalker - tons of mods for this game were made this year This post has been edited by bulkington80: Jul 9 2009, 12:16 -------------------- Good guys play ArmA-1

Read my post, I said they make mods for what games they like, as in enjoy playing. They obviously like these games or they would not have bothered to take the time and effort required to make a mod for them.
I don't know what would make you think a mod team would develop a mod for a game just because it is old over a game they like/enjoy playing as you seem to be arguing in your post. In many cases of course the two facts will over lap and the released mod will be for a game they enjoy playing which just so happens to be old. -------------------- Never before in the history of man, was so much buggered up by so few.

Dudes.
Haven't you learned anything? Never count on BWMod. I'm still waiting for them to release their awesome Huey for OFP. I'm also still waiting for the Stormtrooper pack created by one of their guys, it's apparently going to come out before ArmA... -------------------- The Rules - Nothing too complicated, follow these and we'll have no problems.

Heh, well it seems that it is very much possible to get ArmA1 content in ArmA2.
But let's not forget that it is also possible to bring ArmA2 content into ArmA1. Unless BI clearly say that it is a big no-no. It would be a difficult project, but nothing impossible and at the end you'd have a "lite" version of ArmA2 based on ArmA1 engine (+ all the good addons relizd before). -------------------- Good guys play ArmA-1

And why would you want to do that? ArmA 2 is, technically speaking, much more of a better platform with its many new features.

Not every addon unfortunately. (For example, the Osprey or JSF couldn't be converted to function as it does in ArmA2)
Why? 1. Usage with add-ons that can't be converted to ArmA2. (ie, Binarized infantry designed for ArmA1) 2. For those unable or don't want to play ArmA2. 3. Simply to show that you can do it, so everyone who can't knows you're better than they are. Yeah, it would be a topsy-turvy CWR mod ArmA2 rearmed in ArmA1. I'm surpised that OFP die-hard fans didn't do it for Flashpoint.
Reason #4 is that finally players would have Army & USMC stuff inside one game. This post has been edited by bulkington80: Jul 17 2009, 09:52 -------------------- Good guys play ArmA-1

Personally, seeing more of BWMod's releases for Armed Assault would have made a world of difference in how frequently I play the game in Modern era.
I think some members of the team may have been discouraged by the row with FFAA, or whatever may have happened but I still was looking forward to BWM quality addons, especially the UHT Tiger, Wolf vehicle, and even desert soldiers. I'm likely eventually going to purchase Arma II, but only once I get enough cash for an upgraded or new PC |
