Ok, but what if something happens while you're asleep... like... I dunno, someone who's relative forgot to set his time delay and slept forever until he died of hunger sets your house on fire. Then you'd burn to death in your sleep!
Sure, you could say "Well we'll just make it wake you up if something like that happens", but how can the device distinguish between house burning down and very noisy neighbours? Your device would wake you up for all the stuff you want to sleep through, then you'd have it doing the exact opposite of what you wanted! Could always have an off switch, and just keep the regular "human wakes up when had enough sleep and / or woken by a disturbance".
