Seem to remember higher ranks could get away with killing lower ranks more often too...

Ah right. Well I just slaughtered three squads of friendly troops with setCaptive on, so I'm sure it works in Armed Assault. Perhaps it is influenced by modifications as I recall not being killed after killing quite some friendlies, back in OFP.
