Hi there,
first of all, THANX to all in the Community for their great jobs trying to improve the game (mods etc.) I prefer to enjoy the landscape while flying over it in a Chopper (downloaded some campaigns like "Gunship 2000") BUT, my worst nightmare in ArmA are Dogfights with OPFOR Choppers like KA-50 I've tried to get these hellish twin-rotor-bastards "locked" by choosing Hellfires, no effort! There's no prob in shooting down slow-flying Mi-17s with the MGun! Gonna give me some hints? I couldn't even reach the range where my Gunner could engage these enemy Kamov choppers with the machine-gun! I recognize them - they me too and the last thing i see is a A2A-ROCKET coming over! Bang..."YOU ARE DEAD!" Don't asking what comes over if I would try to engage OPFOR MiGs - suppose...Sudden Death in Midair! Greets FSM |

You can use "tab" to cycle between targets, rather than trying to lock on them with the right mouse button. You can also get rid of the fire delay by switching to manual fire.
IIRC, hellfires can't target aircraft. I can't remeber if the Cobra has Stingers in ArmA.1, if it does, use these instead. To avoid being picked up by enemy radar, you should fly as low as possible (try to avoid flying above 15m on flat terrain, or 30m in mountainous terrain), however, be aware your cannon can't usually engage anything that's above you. The Alligator has an extremely limited fire arc compared to the AH1, so if possible try to attack from the sides or rear, where they won't be able to lock on you without turning. -------------------- The Rules - Nothing too complicated, follow these and we'll have no problems.

Hi, thanx for reply!
Target switching is not my problem...I'm using a good joystick, buttons mapped to the most actions. The mission I'm getting shot down by the Kamovs is placed over "Bagango" with aggressive AA all around which forces me already to stay as low as a weasel...btw. these transmission lines are really annoying, because you'll even see them if you're about to crash into them...managed only one time to fly under them with a MH-6 Little Bird... The Kamovs are scripted to counter-engage my armored units rushing into the city....they come in at high altitude, directly with the sun's direction...hard to see by eyes, I'm getting in veeeery low anyways...but, yeah as I wrote before - they are fast bastards in firing those AA11-Archer-Rockets at you - and unless you're using some add-on that simulate radar lock-on warnings...or even chaff/ flare dropping....NO CHANCE! In the "Armory" there are some challenges "Attack that Place" where also a Kamov pops out of nowhere...sometimes my chopper is still on the ground while starting the engines - and being hit from over 500 meters by AA-Rocket! Anyway... it's the last mission in "Gunship 2000"-Campaign, maybe they just put to much on it! ;-) Greets, FSM This post has been edited by FlyingSpaghettiMonster: Mar 28 2010, 21:32 |
