SAS create another Squadron

The Special Air Service, Britain's elite fighting force, is to be increased in size for the first time in more than 50 years,

The new unit, which will be 983 Squadron based in Hereford, will be ordered to recruit additional members to create a fifth Sabre Squadron capable of deploying on operations.

The decision represents a significant escalation in Britain's efforts to combat the SLA (Sahrani Liberation Army). It follows a warning from defence chiefs that Britain's special forces are struggling to cope with the number of operations that they are being asked to carry out around the world.

As well as operating in Sahrani and Iraq, the special forces are also required to have teams on permanent standby for counter-terrorist operations in the United Kingdom. They also take part in a significant number of Foreign Office sponsored "Exercises" in friendly countries around the world.

Since the SLA became active in the south of the country the SAS and its Royal Navy equivalent, the Special Boat Service, both of which come under the control of the Director of Special Forces, an Army brigadier, have been on permanent operational deployments.

The wars in Sahrani and Iraq and the continuing hunt for the leader of the SLA have only been achieved by using volunteers from the regiment's territorial battalions, 21 and 23 SAS.

The expansion has been made possible by the announcement last July by Geoff Hoon, the Defence Secretary, of a £1.5 billion funding increase for the special forces.

Previously, one of the main hurdles to increasing the size of the SAS was the potential cost. Man for man, the regiment is the most expensive in the British Army with an annual budget that runs to hundreds of millions of pounds.

The move to expand the SAS follows a similar recruiting drive undertaken by the US military, which is planning to increase the size of its special forces to counter the growing threat from terrorist organisations that are based in Sahrani.

Background

A few years ago the terrorist group calling themselves 'The Real Al Cucumber' decided to set out and destroy Democracy in the city of Avgani and the whole country as a whole. We as the Coalition forces would not and could not accept this. We sent in a task force consisting of the 101st Airborne from the USA and the 3rd Armoured Division from the UK. Also we sent in Special Forces from both the UK and the USA to carry out covert and overt operations to make the City a safe place to live once again. We succeeded. The terrorist group was contained and somewhat eliminated, or so we thought.

The Coalition forces built a base within the city of Avgani calling it FOB Syke. FOB standing for Forward Operating Base. Within this base was housed all the coalition forces that maintained the peace within the city. Last year the powers that be decided that Avgani was once again a safe place and under no threat from any terrorist forces so the 'knowledgeable' politicians decided that it was time for the coalition forces to be pulled out of Avgani and deployed in other needful locations. This was 12 months ago...

Current Situation

Coalition Forces have learnt that 'The Real Al Cucumber' have somewhat returned to the former size they once were and maybe even surpassed this. The once safe city of Avgani has now fallen into the hands of this terrorist group. This cannot continue. To this end the governments of all the Coalition Forces have tried by diplomatic means to come to some sort of conclusion that is agreeable by both sides. This of course is a rouse to enable the Military to mount an Operation to free the City once again.

Members of 983 Sqn and their sister Squadron from the Royal Air Force 73 Squadron have been tasked of retaking and also holding the FOB. As we speak 983 Sqn have sent in a 8 man Recce Team to ascertain the strength and numbers of the terrorist group.

Further Intel

It is believed that the SLA from the country of Sarahni is also helping the terrorist group. It is also known that partizan groups are also within the area. At this time it is unknown in what capacity these partizan groups are operating. Worryingly we have had strong information that the terrorist group has laid their hands on some Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). If this is the case then these WMD must be neutralised at the earliest opportunity.

Once the strength and composition of the enemy is known there will be joint operations between 983 Sqn and 73 Sqn and also the Coalition forces to bring these terrorists to their knees.

We must defeat terrorism once and for all.....

The first two battles went pretty much according to plan but there were some difficulties I dont mind admitting too. But if these battles were not taxing then where would the fun be in that?

Talk about reinventing the wheel! That would have been easier!!!
The SHOOT Clan has gone through a total overhaul to say the least. We now have a new 32 slot game server which is run on a quad core machine with 8GB of RAM. The only lag you will see is on your end.

We have moved to a new website which has the look and feel that we are happy with. It is for our Unit and hopefully for a community we will build.

We are gaining members slowly but surely so if you want some realism in your Arma life and ALOT of teamwork then look us up!

We are no longer called the SHOOT Clan. We are now 983 SAS Sqn. If you filter '983' in game you will find our server. On Sunday the server will be holding a Domination mission throughout the day. I want to test the server and put it through its paces. So come along and see if you can break it!

Finally after alot of messing about I have managed to sort out the server issues (in another thread) by going to a different server provider, it was p!ssing me off that much.

Anyway, the new 32 slot slot server which runs on a Quad Core machine is now online! Unless 983 SAS Sqn are using it for their campaigns / training / Joint Coops with other Units / PVP / Covert (and Overt) Operations the server will be running the missions away from the run of the mill Domination or Evo missions. So if you fancy something different then pop on the server any time you see it listed.

Easier still just filter '983 SAS' to find us.
