hey! we at GiantDwarf would like to introduce our newly founded mod for ArmedAssault.

Overview
Campaign Overview. ‘Bloody Freedom’

The year is 2007. After long intense fighting for Iraqi Freedom, UK and US American forces start to send troops back home to their families. Elements of the 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment are still occupying some hostile areas of Iraq. Things have been pretty calm lately but there are rumours that the Syrian terrorist insurgents led by Al Tayyib are taking some revenge on the coalition forces in Northern Iraq, there are also unconfirmed rumours that they are being supported with weapons, armour and explosive devices by a Russian Smuggler group led by his somewhat friend Stanlislav Rustam. The Iraqi economy has not shown signs of improvement despite the fall of Sadaam almost 3 years ago, large military cutbacks have increased the support of subversive elements against the coalition forces and the situation is starting to become even worse...

wow the SA80 looks great! are you planning to make just british units or US aswell? would the iraqi forces take the role of resistance or "south sahrini" as the case in armed assault?

Yes we will be producing our very own US soldiers, however they will be just minor changes to the original US soldiers i.e. thier battlepacks, helmets and uniform, just so the soldiers look authentic to the ones that are fighting in iraq. The Iraqi forces will act as the resistance and play a big part of the campaign, as most of the missions will involve you and your team supporting them in missions.

Thanks for your question and interest wink.gif

I certainly hope (and trust) that a smooth modifier(s) of some sort were unleashed on that SA80, otherwise it has waaaaaay to much vertices (poly's to the O2 using people).

no it's no a problem, i guess, they will use this model to make the normal map. if yes, they must not use a smooth tool. because the normal map could be ugly. the edges must be soft. smile.gif

The SA80 model is very low poly infact and it uses Normal maps. It is very early stages yes, but i have tried putting it into Oxygen the current release and it works fine. Of course the normal maps might or will be changed in due course.

here are some more screen shots of low poly without the normal maps

This is just test textures of course needs work.

Well 3DS MAX & also Maya can easily support and apply Normal maps. With 3DS max you use the normal map metrial, with Maya i ain't sure i personally don't use that. To actually make them you can use Photoshop there is a plugin you can get that creates .DDS files that can be used in 3DS MAX i no, for it to work you will need to use a UV map otherwise the texture wont look right.

Yes we shall be using specular maps as well. In some cases we might use Bump maps instead of normal maps as they are both good for different things. I find specular maps add a good effect and feel on models. smile.gif
