hey mate why don't ask to armaholic to post this?
It would be great play again as SLA.
But from shots i see:
why use the hind instead of KA-50?
they have the alligator not the hind!

however good stuff!!!
I don't know where i can found a goot site for posti this, but i try in any case

Posted by: Blackbuck Sep 17 2009, 19:44

Firstly. The Alligator isn't in serial production yet the KA50 however... The Hind is a perfectly good thing to use it can carry troops in as well as support them plus I think Dave doesn't like the Kamov after me and JynX went on a detour in one leaving him alone tongue.gif

As for ArmAholic. did you ever think that seeing as its posted here one of our site team will upload it?

The Mi35 has been included because it's extremely common among ex-Warsaw Pact nations (much more so than the KA50, which IRL isn't used outside Russia). It's also different enough from the KA50 to warrant being using the alongside it.

I'm going to add some new vehicles in a future release (currently the only vehicles present are reskins of vanilla vehicles, as the way vehicles are set up in ArmA2 this is extremely easy to do).

EDIT: I have no vendetta against the Alligator Mark. Anyways that was an Su-34, which isn't included. tongue.gif

(Anyways, how can two people go for a detour in one Alligator? It's a single seater! ohnoo.gif ... Unless... someone sat in the painted on cockpit! ohnoo.gif )

SF groups can use a simple script to randomize their appearance. Nothing drastic, just some different patterns. It's explained better in the readme.

ooOOOOooooo, could this be the pleasent surprise to which you made reference to in my Sahranian community thread? biggrin.gif Very cool!

Posted by: JynX Sep 21 2009, 00:27

I do believe we have left him stranded numerous times Berkut.

Nice addition dave, sorry couldn't help you pre-release or with the release of it.

Posted by: GI-JoE Sep 22 2009, 10:11

Great work D@ve w00t.gif I was thinking about asking you if you planned to port these great units into ArmA2, and here you are adding even more stuff to SLA... It's great to see addons which fit Arma 1&2 background, let's hope that PRacs will bring SLA's best friends in ArmA 2 thumbsup.gif

If you permit i may have some suggestions/remarks, i know that you surely have them already in mind as you plan to improve your baby/add more stuff, but just in case... :

-maybe adding bonnie-hats, bonnets, helmets etc... to Especas, adding more variety to their equipment, and maybe get rid of berets, i don't think its usefull in combat wink.gif
-more tiny roundels for Air units, and one roundels per side (Su25 has a roundel on the left wing, and another to the right wing, it maybe too much). And you probably seen in BI forum there are beautifull suggestions of "alternative" roundels.
-i find that your SLA camo (wich looks great) on vehicles is pretty hard to see, too "discrete", it would be great to have it "more visible". It could be my config however...
-great to see that you gave Mi24 and Su25 to SLA instead of Ka50 and Su34. No uber-stuff from year 2030 for SLA !
-as you said you'll add more stuff, may i ask what you have in mind ? T55/62/64, bmp1, PT76, good old Migs, more troops, etc... ?

Again, many thanks for bringing SLA to A2, its a pleasure to play with them again.

And sorry for my bad english.

I know that a lot of various units have and do wear their berets into combat so ya know...

Why would you want vehicles that have been camouflaged to stand out more? That's like giving someone a set of BDUs then replacing it with ACU :\

Hmm i think that's a result of my poor english sweatingbullets.gif

About camo i wanted to say that i hardly noticed a difference between "dark green" and "normal green" on the vehicles. At first i though i had a sort of "shadow bug effect". But as i said it might be an issue with my computer. However Chedaki camo doesn't give me the same effect.

About berets, well, you must be right, i don't know a lot about these things, but it always surprise me to see soldiers wearing berets in combat. I don't know why boppin2.gif

I'll consider. Maybe not Boonie hats (and definitely not Bonnets! I can't think of a worse idea! ohnoo.gif )

In the next version the Sukhoi is going to be painted entirely in the colour of the DRS flag. tongue.gif It's a big change, I know, but I feel it's what's right.

Outrageous claims aside, I've decided against the green/brown ones. They just don't seem a bit off tbh. (You can't really apply infantry uniforms and camouflage techniques to vehicle patterns) The iconography and whatnot will be modified in the next release though,

Ok thanks. Sorry for confusion smile.gif

Posted by: GI-JoE Sep 23 2009, 08:49

Sorry for double post guys, but i noticed that i have double Sla faction (with exactly the same things in each) showing in the editor when i launch this pack with CAA1 and CBA. It's just a minor problem, but does anyone have the same "issue" ?

Posted by: D@V£ Sep 23 2009, 14:49

This is caused by the differing faction classnames with similar display names. The only way I could fix this (that I know of) would be to make CAA1 a required addon, something I rather wouldn't do.

Posted by: GI-JoE Sep 23 2009, 16:34

Ok, i was suspecting something like that. But it's not important at all smile.gif

Thanks D@ve.

Posted by: Yokhanan Sep 23 2009, 20:42

One thing that sticks out for me is the boots. But I mean that in a good way. I don't know--it's like with some addons, the soldiers' boots look rather gray and blurry sometimes...but these (especially in the screen shot) look really nicely done. What can I say, I'm a details kind of guy. tongue.gif

Posted by: D@V£ Oct 19 2009, 18:45

Time for a quick update! And some fun!

Lets play, guess the gun! These new guns will be used in the next update! Here's what we've got;

(nb, as the first is an exported model, I want the export designation, I'm still undecided on the M203, it's possible I'll include one with a GP25 as well... and anyone who says "AK47" is going to suffer, a lot.)

And here's some more difficult ones (well... the first isn't) if you're some kind of supergunbuffmunn. They'll be included in the next update, but won't be used by the SLA;

(I've just noticed that one of the second could be an M4, so erm... just accept that it isn't! biggrin.gif Also, the STANAG magazine on the second to last is a placeholder, it'll use a proper Kalashnikov style magazine in the final version)

(With 5, I'll accept any of the 3)

Finally, here's a WIP of the BMP1P; (there might be more variants if I can work out this modelling thing)

(In Chedaki colours for the p3d, ingame it'll be available in CDF, NAPA, ChDKZ and SLA colours. Possibly even Russian, but don't quote me on that.)

Heh. Posting pictures of guns and whatnot taken in buldozer... who do I think I am? Vilas? tongue.gif

Posted by: GI-JoE Oct 31 2009, 15:28

A bit late here, but it's great to see that your work is coming nicely, can't wait to see more ! thumbsup.gif

Posted by: D@V£ Oct 31 2009, 17:29

Thanks, here's a better picture of the BMP1, this time in CDF colours (Maa and Vilas provided good degree of criticism in the BI Forums thread, so it looks a lot more like a BMP1 now)

(Bear in mind, this is still a WIP picture, so there are several inconsistencies)

For those interested, the weapons pictured:
1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pu%C5%9Fc%C4%83_Automat%C4%83_model_1986 (export PA Md.86, versions with front grip will be included... yeah, I said M203 in the previous post, well... I was just testing! tongue.gif )
2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vz._58 (A lil' boid told me this is going to be in Arrowhead, so it'll probably be axed)
3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AK-105 (also pictured with GP25)
4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AK-74M#Variants (not pictured, varients with PSO-1 scope. Will release a replacement pack for the AK107 once I work out a few model.cfg issues)
5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C7a1 (not pictured: Rear sights, optical sights)

All post's digressing from the intent of the thread have been removed.

No more bickering, stay on topic.

Some more screenshots; (Taken on the beautiful Panthera island)

Marine Soldiers, added in next release

Desert Soldiers, added in next release

Naval Crewmen, added in next release (Argh! Bloom! They don't call them Hi-Vis vests for nothing! ohnoo.gif )

(You probably shouldn't dwell too much on why it's the same three people in every picture)

As always, if it's not released, I'm still working on it! While I appreciate the input of any bugs visible in these screens, bear in mind that if it's something outrageously obvious, there's a chance I'm already aware of it.

Posted by: GI-JoE Nov 10 2009, 10:25

Great work, it looks sexy, especialy these Marines and BMP 1 smile.gif

By the way, do you also work on some kind of "especas" ?

Posted by: D@V£ Nov 10 2009, 14:59

Especa's are included in the current release. They'll be largely unchanged in the next version. (Weapon loadout is going to be slightly different, they'll be using AK105s instead of AKS74Us)

Posted by: GI-JoE Nov 10 2009, 18:17

What the .... weirdsmiley.gif Of course Especas are included in the present release, i really need to drink more coffee... But thanks, you answered to what i wanted to ask saying that they will be largely unchanged sweatingbullets.gif

Looking at your CDF BMP 1, may i resonnably think that you are going to bring some stuff to ArmA 2 "original" factions too, or has it to do with your work on textures ?

Yeah, I just quoted myself saying "don't quote me". What's my past self gonna do? Build a time machine and come kick my ass? I'd like to see him try!

It's going to be set up in the same manner as the standard ArmA2 BMP-2, allowing for easy remapping using hidden selections (so, one model for each vehicle, as opposed to ArmA1 where there'd have to be one model for each skin). This also means that it'll be easy for other addon makers to add the BMP-1 to any faction that already has the BMP-2.

weirdsmiley.gif I guess it's not my day today...

Anyway, thanks for responding me D@ve, best wishes for the work.

Posted by: D@V£ Dec 19 2009, 19:31

A slight update;

Just got off for Christmas! Yay! I'll see how much time I can put towards getting the updated troops and weapon pack released soon. (within the next 6 weeks or so)

For those interested, the next version will feature:
-A fix for the Mi-17 with rockets (I *think* this has been introduced with one of the beta patches, it wasn't there when I released the previous version and I haven't changed the skin at all)
-The previously pictured Marines
-The previously pictured Desert Soldiers (These are actually just a reskin of standard solders included for convenience)
-The previously pictured Navy Support personnel (as well as a few Navy Aircraft)
-The retexturing feature seen on Especas has been extended to all troops (By request)
-All new weapons, most noticeably the Romanian AIM-74 and variants (the stock has been completely reworked since those pictures), PSL and the AK105

I also want to include an ACE2 compatibility patch, I haven't fully tested the addon in ACE2, but I know there's going to be some issues with using it alongside ACEX that I'll want to get sorted.

The vehicle pack probably won't be coming out for a while though. Right now there's only one vehicle that's anywhere near finished, and that's suffering from two major bugs and I can't work out what's causing them. I may release it over 2010, but for now it's on the backburner while I work on projects that don't involve trying to fix bugs which don't appear to have any apparent solution. (Secret Projects!)

Posted by: vilas Dec 20 2009, 11:53

you can easily do reskin to my BMP1, 2S1 and more vehicles to have own camo , now my addon works as "selection texture" , so you no need to care about "config, bugs, normalmapping, specular maps"

hiddenSelections[] = {"Camo01", "Camo02", ...};
hiddenSelectionsTextures[] = {"\my_addon\bmp2_01_co.paa", "\my_addon\bmp2_02_co.paa", ...};

so you can have for your addon BMP1 in some minutes/hours depending on texture work

Posted by: D@V£ Dec 20 2009, 17:09

Cool, I was just going to ask you about that! tongue.gif

Posted by: GI-JoE Dec 23 2009, 13:53

Great news D@ve, and great to see cooperation between addonmakers smile.gif

Keep up the good work !

Desert units are almost completed. Just got a few more skins to do. Here's some pictures, I didn't want to edit them because they always end up looking like crap if I do, so here they are in super quality uneditedness. So if you've got some kinda super computer this is what it'll look like ingame. For me however, these were taken at around 2fps tongue.gif

Posted by: D@V£ Feb 1 2010, 23:04

Delayed, slightly. I don't want to say it'll be released "soon", but it might wink.gif

Posted by: D@V£ Feb 15 2010, 10:21

Preliminary Release Coming Soon - Watch this space
(Preliminary because there's still a few issues, but I'm kinda running out of modding steam here, so a final release may still be way off)

I have to go somewhere in about 10 minutes, so I can't upload it now (that'll take ~45 minutes), should be able to do that in ~2hr or so. So, yeah, ~3hrs until release. Feel free to countdown if that's the sort of thing you guys enjoy doing.

This is preliminary release! While everything is working, there are a few minor issues that are proving difficult to solve, or I simply can't find time to fix. That said, it's tidier than a lot of "finished" addons. But, if you demand a absolute perfection, wait until the final release.

Link: http://www.filefront.com/15590781/HSO_ArmA2_SLA_R2_PRELIM.7z

Contains: ArmA 2 weapons pack, SLA Infantry pack*

(*This has vehicles in it, the reasons it's called "Infantry Pack" is because it's only got Infantry Models in it, the vehicles are just reskins of BIS vehicles, there was originally going to be a vehicle pack, containing new vehicles, but it never really got off the ground... more accurately, it exploded in the hanger.)

Known Bugs

Weapon Pack:
-Bolt Animations don't work (Anyone got an example of how to make this work? I can't seem to work it out sad.gif )
-Some Shadow issues
-Lots of mess in the PBO (shouldn't affect game play too much, but it does increase the size for no real reason, I'd rather make everything usable then delete it.. except the Laser gun. That'll never be usable. ArmA.2 can't handle such madness!)

Infantry Pack:
-FFW textures (and pretty much everything else about them) are a bit iffy right now. Not really a bug, but I will make them better in the final R2 release.
-Some clipping issues with equipment
-Jet pilot looks really sh*tty from some angles

Posted by: Banderas Feb 15 2010, 23:36

Hey Dave!

Thanks for these new releases! Keep up the good work thumbsup.gif

A strange bug I've met: in helicopters I cannot switch the engine off, it turns on automatically when I'm the pilot, and all the helos do like that, not only the addon ones.

Posted by: D@V£ Feb 16 2010, 01:02

I've never seen this bug in testing, AFAIK the only way that could be caused is if I've somehow overwritten the default helicopter class, and I don't think I've even referenced that in the config (the only references for aircraft are to the Mi8 base classes and the CDF Crocodile and Rook)

I need to be able to reproduce the error before I can understand what's causing it, could you let me know:
1. Does the error occur when only using the pack, and no other 3rd party addons? (as in, just default ArmA.2 and this)
2. Does the error occur when you aren't using the pack?
3. Which helicopters are effected? If possible could you test all of them? As well as any 3rd party helicopters you might be able to get your hands on.

As I intend to post about this release on the Armed Assault.info news site, I need some gorgeous pics to enhance my poor words.
Do you intend to release official screen shots ? Or do I need to make some on my own ?

Addon already hosted on Armed Assault.info .ftp :

Posted by: D@V£ Feb 16 2010, 12:37

I'll make some decent screens for the final release (or, if anyone wants to volunteer?), this version is more of a "public beta", though I've decided not to call it that. Because I know I'll make an obvious mistake and look like a complete idiot to anyone who actually understands that system...

Posted by: Tony Danza Feb 17 2010, 03:53

I am not a fan of the weapons, could you please release a replacement back to BI weapons or maybe even RH and Vilas weapons?

Posted by: Blackbuck Feb 17 2010, 11:11

Why not make one yourself. You should be happy with whatever the creator gives you, namely because he doesn't have to give you anything at all.

Posted by: Benoist Feb 17 2010, 13:53

First of all, quit with the agresion, he didn't say anything bad, second, I don't have to be happy with what I'm given, look at http://www.armedassault.info/ftp/pics/addons/sedanreloaded1.jpg, those were bad, not only aesthetically, also in the fact that he did nothing new, just copied and pasted pieces of addons one over the other. I don't have to be happy about it, or something that never asked for, like the U.S. Marines of "The Generation Kill" or BigMike addons.
I'm also in my right to make a constructive criticism now is on the right of the author (or will) to pay attention or not.

Shorting it out: He simply asked for a reemplacement pack and said that he didn't like the weapons, that's all.
He even asked with a "please".

Posted by: Blackbuck Feb 17 2010, 14:41

I'm entitled to post my own thoughts, if you don't like them then it's tough Benoist. It's hardly hard to make a replacement pack either.

QUOTE(Tony Danza @ Feb 17 2010, 02:53) *

Well, I was going to consider not doing this, but now that you've suggested it, no. However, I'd have no arguments if anyone was to create a replacement mod to use the BI weapons or whatever weapon set they might choose. There are two very obvious reasons for this:

1. Compatibility:
I don't want 500-odd different versions of this pack floating around. This is why I've requested any distributed modifications be done so under different file and class names. This makes it easier for everyone, as it means they don't need to f*ck around finding the exact version they need for to play a mission, or online with their friends.

2. Time:
I have other projects I'm working on, and, believe it or not, an active social and work life, I don't have time to make every single modification of the pack people request, that's why I've designed it thus far to be as modular as possible.

Posted by: Lex89 Feb 18 2010, 19:28

Nice pack mate.

The \addons work perfectly for me, with and without others addons or Mods.

But the only suggestion that i can ask is, can you make the SLA weapons compatible with the soundmods?

It's a bit strange hear the stock ArmA2's AK when using some soundmod.

However those SLA are great! now I'm just waiting the RACS, for another War on Sahrani ( Without Americans that help the RACS tongue.gif )

see ya!

Posted by: D@V£ Feb 19 2010, 10:36

I don't know if this is possible. I want to create an ACE compatible version in the future, that'll probably work with the ACE soundmod, but AFAIK any other soundmod would require a rewrite of the weapon pack config.

I'm having great fun with your SLA D@ve, can't wait to see what you're preparing for future.

Howdy D@V£!

I'd like to ask wether the SLA will get some of the new vehicles from OA (L-39, BTR-60, BTR-40, T-55), or some reskin of the new RHS stuff already out (BTR-70, BMD-1/2)?

Some of the vehicles in OA will probably show up if there's a third release (if being the operative word), I'm trying to come up with a good solution for cross compatablity between ArmA.2 and OA versions before anything gets released though.

That sounds like you've just installed the config .pbo - you should have these files in your addon folder for vanilla:
hso_arma2_weaps.pbo
hso_arma2_weaps.pbo.HSO.bisign
hso_slainf.pbo
hso_slainf.pbo.HSO.bisign
hso_arma2_weaps_cfg.pbo
hso_arma2_weaps_cfg.pbo.HSO.bisign
hso_slainf_cfg.pbo
hso_slainf_cfg.pbo.HSO.bisign

Or these if you're using Combined Operations:
hso_arma2_weaps.pbo
hso_arma2_weaps.pbo.HSO.bisign
hso_slainf.pbo
hso_slainf.pbo.HSO.bisign
hso_arma2_weaps_cfg_oa.pbo
hso_arma2_weaps_cfg_oa.pbo.HSO.bisign
hso_slainf_cfg_oa.pbo
hso_slainf_cfg_oa.pbo.HSO.bisign

If that doesn't fix the problem, it's possible you've got a corrupted archive, try re-downloading, preferably from a different site.
