@Benoist
Yes that would be about right.
I would like to include an off shore air base and port for something i have planned but other then that it needs to be included for phase 1.
i will speak to our map maker and see what he's happy to do but his time is limited.
we have plans for the island in the future but the fact is it needs to be finished in time.
it's not going to just end it will be ended down to beaches etc... and there will be small villages inbetween but you have to think we need to make custom objects and houses for each town and village,
and would like the towns modelled as accuratly as we can,
a hard prospect but we'll see what can be done.
also it's not a quick project to do.
i would like an island including what i already mentioned but also with cherbourg and caen but that would be a massive undertaking.
i guess things will be have to arranged to see how far our map maker wants to go.

Thanks for your questions.

what you are going to do, is a hell of work... think about it... thumbsup.gif
I can help you in making island, and at least some house models... but for a good WWII map (like I did for OFP) you need more than 300 models... keep it in mind mate.

What if you just export them? the only work would be the new textures.

Or it's form I44? Can't you cooperate? That would make the thing easier, for both, and it's pretty annoying to have 20 mods about the same thing, because one have good weapons and the other good models, etc.

Just an anecdotic fact: i realised that the simple calculations that i made were... rigth blink.gif
Well, if you are going to do an 1:1 island 21x24km isn't too much, the problem is that port and the airport that xEnigmax has in mind.

The port and airport aren't so much in the Mod as something i was planning for the mod.
i'm working on house models inbetween texturing and i think that tankcommander is working on house models aswell.
aqs for porting i sure that would be easier but Normandy for ofp wasn't much bigger if i remember. also it used alot of custom content.
this would be good but the problem is that JC (jean christophe) is un contactable the last i heard and so any permission for getting the island ported is impossible to recieve.
it's a shame really.
alot of really good OFP models that could be reused and ported to arma saving a mod team alot of time,Can't even begin to be used because the creators are MIA.
Oh well,Life goes on.

Oh also i contacted I44 before they're "comeback"
and received no permissions for anything.
obviously because they were planning on bringing content back to ArmA.
And wouldn't want several different mod teams using different versions of the same model.

The large map is an excellent idea,we all want to do it that way,but i would strongly advise you to start off with a smaller chunk,12km x 12km is plenty,a little bigger if you need to stretch it to fit Carentan,Ste-Mere Eglise area for the Airborne drops.our map is 10km x 6km deep, and the only reason i am even considering it is armas fantastic eco system, but you still gotta place most of it by hand.
A huge unobtainable map project can be a mod killer,it will be humanly impossible to recreate that total area in the way you want, whereas the main areas that follow BoB you could focus on,then maybe import the smaller chunks into the main large area.

I think thats what it will have to be.
I would like normandy recreated and i expect alot more would.
having a Big island but it's just not going to be possible to do for release
unless an island maker with the time to do it will help out.
an island that scale i can imagine for a skilled Island maker would be 3-4 hours a night for a couple of months straight. and no one has that kind of non stop work ethnic.
So a small island is best if you want release before ArmAIII
And i think the small concept we had is better for time scale,
with The beaches/a beach and airborne drop zone whilst including all the places in BoB's
carentan,vierville,brecourt manor etc...

The whole island is yet to be comfirmed.
As i've said the picture is a concept and it's still to be completly discussed as to what will be done.

Thanks For you suggestion Jojimbo will take it on board and see.
If no one takes up the Island making problem we have i might have some long nights infront of visitor 3

Update on my part. Started work on a series of buildings to help recreate the atmosphere of the western European countryside in WWII. Just started texturing the windmill with next updates to be posted from ingame.

Hello fellas, I'm a total noob at modding, but I'd love to give it a shot and help out in some way. I'd like to start modding some WW2 Germans and Brits, but need some real basic pointers, such as what programs I need to download to start all this and where to get them. Any help off you guys would be much appreciated.

Who is/will be the mind behind the map?
I have to make one for our Malvinas MOD and I don't have a clue about Visitor, I know that your map isn't developed/in early stages but is beter for me since I can follow step by step.

If you decide to help, I'll contact him by PM.

hi everyone,

I am new on this or any ArmA related forum but I ve been around since OFP. I have some moderate experience in modmaking for OFP and ArmA, Ive been doing it for my own purposes mostly.

But I think it is a time to finally cooperate with others, and the reason is very simple: I would finally like to see any COMPLETED WW2 mod for the ONLY realistic (not fully realistic of course) mil sim existing.

So, I started like week ago to create Normandy terrain for ArmA. As far I have 1/4 of the Montebourg - St-mere Eglise - Carentan area - for US airborne landings, and Utah beach purposes.
But I dont plan to include Montebourg and Carentan as a full finished cities, they would only be seen from the distance - this way you wont be able to reach by foot or ground vehicle the end of the map, as natural obstacles like rivers and bushes will prevent you to go further.

At first I planned to use generic ArmA buildings but if you like to help me with my island you can send me your Normandy buildings or other WW2 related stuff to include in that terrain. Of course after completion my map would be free to use in any WW2 related mod.

As a US 82nd Airborne reenactor and an 3D artist i can help you with any information and materials on US troops including texture-ready photos of uniforms and gear made on your request, historical advising etc.

As I am also a game designer, i have plenty of ideas what a "perfect" WW2 mod could be and I would really like to share theese ideas with you. Ive been trying to write my own scripts for both ArmA and OFP, some of them were usefull but my programming skills are on the begginner level so I cannot accomplish what i would like to see in WW2 mod.

Be sure to check my website for pictures of my reenacting group for reference purposes for your models/textures: www.paraglite.org
