Well, that's pretty much the description of German humor then. Add to that an aweful lot of left-leaning political satire. I came across this show on ARD last week from the 1980's with a granddaughter talking about current events with her grandfather, obviously an elderly Hitler. Was quite enjoyable. I didn't know the Germans were that tolerant of such comedy back then. -------------------- |

At the risk of getting laughed at, I don't think there's a noteworthy difference between British, Dutch or German humor (or any other Western nation for that matter). Sure, there are some prominent figures in the comedy business who couldn't hail from a different place - Rowan Atkinson for instance - and their success is quite telling of course, but other than that? Here we enjoy Mr.Bean also. Taboos may vary, but in the end of the day all our countries get their daily dose of Comedy Central if you know what I mean: streamlined run-off-the-mill jokes. You won't find a noteworthy difference between Britain's Russell Howard ("Good News") and Germany's Oliver Welke with the "Heute Show".
In other news, a F1+ tornado hit a village not far from where I live yesterday where it unroofed 50 houses and uprooted 20 hectares of oak wood. This is the most violent storm season ever since I can remember. -------------------- |

My plead is for temporary insanity that was caused by permanent insanity of very, very twisted nerve cluster that's called brain matter, that's supposed to be grey but isn't, it's black and has a somewhat sarcastic and dark sense of humor, or lacks it totally. Not politically incorrect, per say, but, you are a politician, and your view is incorrect, if that's any consolation.

Problem is you start on the beer then all the somerset friends turn up as does the cider!
You get eight pints down here for £6.50 if you go to the brewery where you get to taste it before hand. So good. -------------------- Win. Seriously. |

Then, the next morning, you wake up wearing nothing but a straw hat, with an unfamiliar tractor parked in your driveway, the faint smell of silage in every room of your house, and no memory of the previous night, save for the music of the Wurzels.
I've taken the liberty of artificially inflating your post count. Do not take this as a charitable act, as I have merely done it to make everyone else feel worse in comparison. -------------------- The Rules - Nothing too complicated, follow these and we'll have no problems.

John, may I ask you a favour? What does: "Het moet, dus het kan" mean in English (or German, if you prefer)?

John, may I ask you a favour? What does: "Het moet, dus het kan" mean in English (or German, if you prefer)? "It's a must, so it's possible" or "It has to be done, so it's ok". The both parts of both sentences can obviously be swapped (parts before and after the comma) and the exact meaning depends on the context. Talking about British humor, I was watching TV going through the channels when I spotted this great political satire show with ridiculous characters, sarcastic questions, answers not fully thought through, flawed logic and cheeky retorts. It was being broadcast on two channels at the same time as well! Only after it had ended I noticed I wasn't watching BBC Entertainment, and that this was in fact a debate about the Scottish referendum for independence

The Brits should concentrate their attention to this Rotherham slough that's been making the news.
I'm beginning to fantasise about ethnic cleansings. None of the violent type just... a flight ticket and 48 hours to leave. At the expense of the responsible politicians. Who should be sent along. What a wretched world. Anyone of you guys happens to be a billionaire? I need one of those Mars colonies we were promised decades ago. -------------------- |

Anyone of you guys happens to be a billionaire? I need one of those Mars colonies we were promised decades ago. Way past that stage. Why go for a colony on Mars when 90% of the planet is covered in water and we don't have to shoot all of them into space but can just put them in a shipping container and toss them over the side? Oh sorry, I didn't realize I said that out loud -------------------- |
