So I'm relatively new to Arma, even thought it was a last generation game released nearly three years ago in 2007, I have only had it for a few weeks. Playing the game was a bit of a dissapointment, because I thought it would have been a extremey reaslistic combat sim. I have heard of several mods which were recommended to those who wanted more realism in Arma. The two most recommended mods were ACE and Project '85 by Vilas. I wanted Arma to be more realistic, because the vanilla arma is downright ugly. I had no trouble installing ACE and it works fine, but when I tried to install P'85, ACE did not seem to be compatible. So here's what I did to install them: To install ACE, I went into my arma directory and made a modfolder called @ACE and inside of it another folder called 'Addons'. Then I downloaded ACE into this folder. After I did this, I right clicked on ARMA.exe and made a shortcut. I right clicked properties and put in -mod=@ACE into the path. ACE worked fine, until I did the same thing for P85. I made another folder in the ARMA directory called @P85 and in it I put a folder called Addons. The rest of what I did is pretty much standard for installing mods but P85 doesn't seem to work. I also typed in -mod=@ACE; @P85 -nosplash into the path, but when I try to play arma, the ACE menu doesn't show up and the original arma menu shows up. The Project 85 mod doesn't seem to take effect in game, and I am left with the BIS weapons, units, and vehicles. I am positive that P85 is ACE compatible. What am I doing wrong and how do I get ACE and P85 to work together? Or if you can't, how do you get just P85 to work?

Firstly the nosplash line goes before the mod line, secondly: its common for large scale mods such as P85 and ACE to be incompatible, as I've never used P85 I can't say if this is the case however I'm sure I read posts confirming as such.

To run either mod on its own you simply use one of their mod folder routes instead of both.

Wish I could offer to help some more but as I've said I've never used P85 with ArmA never mind ACEmod.
PS: +1 for use of propper spelling and grammar though if you could structure your post so it's a bit easier to read that'd get major kudos tongue.gif

First thing I notice is that it should be this you use in your shortcut:
CODE
-mod=@ACE;@P85 -nosplash

Secondly, you'll want to check exactly what's in your P'85 addon folder, you should have a load of .pbo and .bisign files. If you've got a bunch of folders instead, find the pbo and bisign files and move them to the addons directory.

It's also worth noting that ACE isn't, by default, compatible with a lot of addons, as it changes the scope of the original units so they're hidden in the editor, I believe there is an option to disable this though (you need to change something in a .hpp file IIRC, someone else might know more than me). Try that first.

Failing this, you'll likely have to run P'85 without ACE.

Thanks for your replies. I placed all the P85 files into one folder called @P85. They are all 7z files. It still doesn't seem to work. I then changed the code to -nosplash -mod=@ACE; @P85 but so far, no dice. Is there something I can change in the ACE config?

7z files are compressed archives, similar to zip files. You'll want to download 7zip or Winrar to uncompress the files contained within them. Once you get in the archives extract the .pbo files to the addons directory.

To reiterate, the only files you should have in your addons folders are .pbo and .bisign files (I think .hpp files might work too, but don't quote me on that), anything else can't be used by the engine and will increase the load time on startup.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I'll let you know if it works or not. Where can I download 7zip or winrar? Also, what about rar files? Do they have to be uncompressed as well?

Rar, 7z and Zip files are all compressed archives, there are a few other types, but these are the most common. Any files you download from this site can be uncompressed with winrar: http://www.win-rar.com/

(You can use the free version indefinitely, you just get a message box when you open stuff)

I have placed all the PBO and bisign files into the @P85 folder. It still doesn't seem to work? What am I missing?

hi smile.gif
Project 85 is just addons pack
there is P85 for Arma 1 (1.14 or higher)
there is P85 for Arma 2

so you should treat it as every other addon, just throw into addons folder
it is not mod, it is not changing gameplay, so it is just content pack

When you say P'85 folder I assume you mean the addons folder in your modfolder.

I'd suggest seeing if you can run it without ACE, if you haven't already, otherwise, it's a problem with the installation.

Ok, first thing to look at is if the engine throws up any errors on startup or ingame. Stuff like "addon X requires Y" or "unable to load XYZ".

Secondly, check is the name of the addons folder, make sure there are no spaces in the name (it's easy in windows to put a space after the folder name and not realize).

P'85 has a complex structure that puts all the worky bits in different files to the models and whatnot, make sure you've got the configuration file, should be called something like P85_cfg.pbo IIRC, though I don't have it installed right now so I can't be sure. (you'd think 300gb would be enough to let me have all the mods ever made installed... but sadly... no sad.gif ). Vilas should know this better than me. I'd advise you bug him continually about it tongue.gif

Finally, as he's already said, there are versions for ArmA2, make sure you've got the version for ArmA1.

(Also, in the future, use the edit button instead of posting 20 minutes after a previous post, just keeps the forum tidier smile.gif )

Thanks Vilas and D@V£ for your help. I do have the correct P85 mod for ARMA 1, but I forgot to mention that I currently have Arma version 1.08, which came preinstalled onto Arma Gold. Anyway, I think I know what the problem is, I just need to update my version number to 1.16. I will give this a try and get back to you ASAP. Thanks again! thumbsup.gif

Ok problem solved! All I had to do was update my arma version. Thanks to Vilas and D@V£! worship.gif So now that P85 is working like it should, are there any maps or islands that you would recommend to use with P85? Also, does Project 85 have SP and MP missions? If so, where can I download them?! naughty.gif
