He's the chibi, but certainly not a mini-me. I don't fancy trains. Nor anything that moves, for that part. Well, except for giggly body parts maybe... Trains are glorious. That is all. Well, maybe you should endeavour to be more like Mark, then you'd have a mini-me. I'm not going to do all the work here. Sources close to Mark have informed me that so many people were involved in producing Mark that I feel open source is the only possible type of license for him* * This information did not come from the plumber, milk man, neighbours 1 through 14, mail man, fire brigade nor the local rugby team. I was not conceived as a low cost attempt at making 47. Mark wasn't born yesterday (yeah, yeah, I doubt that one too), back then they still had milk men Btw regarding the "copyright" pun I made I forgot a pure gold one. >>Since his mother was open source, so too should any derivatives be covered by the same license << -------------------- -------------------- Heed my words or risk being beaten with a stick then fed to my associate D@V The Rules - Most places have rules, these are ours Read them! Check back into .info news page for the first time in a while and see BI are running a competition. Whats the prize? A goody bag? nope. A signed collectors edition of A3? nope. A copy of VBS? nope. A quarter million dollars? yup. Is it realistically possible i will ever make it through a gaming quarter without Bi pushing me to burn my ArmA collection in embarrassment? edit: Also its a bit rich to offer what is essentially a massive bribe to kick start the modding community back up. Well Bi you f*cked me over with A1, you made me wait a year for tools in A2, then you f*cked me over again with the A2 multiplayer. You've had A3 in the public domain for nearly a year and its still not finished ... sorry but money isn't going to bring me back. 3 months of modding today doesn't even come close to 3 months of BWMOD CTI + FFUR etc in OFP and that right there is what your prize money cant buy. /rant I can understand the competition idea itself but I don't see the point of actually handing out money. No genuine addonmaker that poured their heart into the addons they made has ever done it to make money out of the addons themselves. At most money was made indirectly by developing their skills or creating a portfolio to get noticed if they wanted to work as an artist. Putting out a substantial financial reward in a community already affected by money hungry opportunists because of DayZ is the worst thing that could possibly have been done as it will draw in even more. Like the possibility of getting a job at BIS if you really become good at making addons isn't enough of an incentive for the kind of people the community really needs. And I'm not sure BIS would be best off with such people either. The best work is produced by people that love their work, not love the prospect of getting money as the only reason for getting involved. The incentive to steal content and hope to get away with it (which to be honest is considerable since there are so many places you can get artwork from these days) until the money has been transferred has increased immensely. I wonder what the idea is behind the prizes if it isn't meant to lure in (semi-)pro developers or freelance artists from outside the community. If it's to show appreciation for the work the community has done and is doing they should have done something that the entire community would benefit from such as pay for the costs of a site like ArmAholic for a year. Would have been cheaper too. I don't see appreciation or support towards the community in general so that can't be it. Money is the last thing the community needs. Support the games as well as you can and provide us with tools and some samples when you can. We've never asked for anything more. All such insane amounts of money does is make people weary of others, turn people against each other and give even more of a reason to violate IP rights even more so for newcomers or those that otherwise wouldn't even give this game/community the time of day. Some interesting concepts might arise but I don't see it improving mutual cooperation in the community (= money needs to be split by X number of people). But I personally believe that BIS is just hoping to stumble upon another wonder project like they did with DayZ. Something they can market ArmA3 with like DayZ that sent ArmA2 sales through the roof and/or make into a standalone game or expansion pack. It's pure business I'm afraid. If they had wanted to show their support for the addonmaking part of the community in particular they could have just browsed through the addons released in the last two years/since ArmA3 was released and give those that are the best or most innovative some money or some hardware or software in cooperation with some sponsors. That way people that only did it for noble reasons without any knowledge of potentially getting financially rewarded for their work would be getting rewarded instead of the opportunists that this charade will draw in. -------------------- |

Well, in a way John, seeing as CSLA have pretty much already won, that's exactly what BIS are doing
That said, one prize for total conversions and 3 for "multiplayer game modes"? I think you might be right on the money (literally) with them looking for the another DayZ... -------------------- The Rules - Nothing too complicated, follow these and we'll have no problems.

In my defense i am on some pretty stupid meds at the moment for a skin fungi, my bad for ranting chaps
Got to agree with you guys. If there was one concrete rule the community was not to break it was involving money in addons. You could do anything you could dream of with the game as long as it was free. Once this comp runs its course and a select few effectively win the lottery, whats going to happen to the mod teams that didn't win? Has the community really shrunk to the point where we only have one or two top modders these days? ... A quarter million dollars *facepalm* -------------------- |

Huh? That's what I meant. You can't make up excuses for medicines prescribed by an actual doctor, excuses are only allowed if you buy them from some guy you know who lives in Spain like the rest of us does In other words: Who is sending you shipments of nuclear material and why didn't you tell us sooner? I can't tell. I'd have to kill you if I did. For fairness sake though, notice that this post is polluted with radioactive material.
"Spain", why's that? Are you a Tour d'France driver now? In other news, a deadline has passed and a semester paper has been handed in. -------------------- |

He means the Second Spanish Republic, which, for legal reasons, several of us "live in". He's technically at war with Franco, and, might I say, all things considered, as Franco is dead, and JdB is still very much alive, he's doing quite well!
Personally speaking, I've set up residence in the DDR, since they've got their own top-level domain, though, apparently they're making those available to any arsehole who wants fancy letters after his website, so I might move to the Saar Protectorate, because apparently that means the French are required by international to come to my aid if anyone tries to "start something", which is handy. -------------------- The Rules - Nothing too complicated, follow these and we'll have no problems.

Sorry, I can't respond to that. Right now I'm trying to get over the fact that Windows's very own explorer displays 1 in the 'number of pages'-attribute column for all my documents, even when they've got like 17, 55 or 1228 pages.
Technically that means Microsoft Windows doesn't support Microsoft Office. -------------------- |

If that were the case the correct number to display would be zero, so my question still stands.
Do you know that when you seek guidance in a certain matter and all the internet (which doth know evarithing of courssssse) has to offer is some forum thread with exactly one post — namely the thread starter's who had asked "your" question? -------------------- |
