Whats your opinion of ArmA2 so far?
Personally I think ArmA2 will be to ArmA what ArmA was to OFP. If that makes any sense. It seems that BIS is still living in the Cold War Era despite the fact that it has been over for almost 2 decades now. I am not seeing any of the features that were standard in VBS1 and VBS2 like fast roping and shooting from passenger positions -------------------- - .B.O.H.I.C.A. - .D.I.L.L.I.G.A.F. -

Same story... communists take over an island, then democratics call for aid and USA will answer.
Takes place in the near-future... according to BIS, it will take place in the past with the release of 2010! :| Personally, I don't give a poo. ArmA 2 will be "the game" as ArmA is 0.5 and ArmA 2 will be 1.0... in my opinion! -------------------- HUNS

What ? USA as heroes and Those-soldiers-that-looks-like-russians as villains again ? ahem, well whatever, its developer decision.

I asked Suma to improve the AI, cause it's not so brained in this chapter (ArmA).. he says that the AI in ArmA is AI, despite the other games where it's scripted and acts always at the same manner, while in this game AI can do always a different thing.
ArmA2 will have a more clever AI he told me. I hope guys. -------------------- Visit my blog about Poker at Blogspot.com

Looks like the same game to me. I'll be sticking with OFP and ArmA 1 and consider buying OFP 2 too, unless I hear that people really like the game...

I agree with Rellikki
it does look pretty much the same to me aswell, see no marked improvments over Arma 1 in the screenies, having said that a screenie can only say so much, so we'll just have to see when it comes out QUOTE I am not seeing any of the features that were standard in VBS1 and VBS2 like fast roping and shooting from passenger positions yea this would be a great addition wouldnt it, but not sure that i can see this happening Personally no matter what I will be buying Arma 2 and Opflash 2, the latter being the one I am most looking forward to |

"As for the plot, it's 2009 with the action occurring in a fictional post-Soviet country called Chernarus. "Players will be sent as members of a United States Marine Corps Force Recon squad to this country to prevent further civilian casualties and ensure ongoing stability there."
FROM WIKIPEDIA: "ArmA 2 is set in the near future, 2009, in a fictional post-Soviet country called Chernarus (literally "Black Russia", a play on Belarus (Беларусь) which means "White Russia"). Bohemia Interactive revealed during E3 that the game will have a "roleplaying feel to it"; with in-game events affecting your character as well as the entire campaign. An example would be terrorizing noncombatants and losing their trust, thus encouraging them to give away valuable information to enemy forces. A map the size of 650 square kilometers has been mentioned in a recent interview with a BI representative. ArmA 2 is expected to be released in 2008." -------------------- Visit my blog about Poker at Blogspot.com

The traditional plot of BIS! I'm getting bored of this!
BTW, they should have come up with some desert or winter map. -------------------- HUNS

Now that you meantion it Bence I am surprised that BIS did not make the new game set in the desert region to exploit the interest in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan ... at least it would be a pleasant change to that digusting shade of green they keep re-using in all their islands!

So far ? I am disappointed, even if I'll buy it, Arma2 look like a big addon of Arma maybe without bugs.
Personally I regret that Bis didn't improve significantly the physics and the animations since Ofp "2001", and up to now the majority of the buildings seems to be closed on Arma2 ... With the new technologies "multi Core CPU" it's possible to add realistic ragdoll/dismemberments and realistic animations for weapons, as Red Orchestra, without destroying the framerate. That becomes annoying always to fight with the weapons and armies. If they do something after Arma2, i hope we will see some European or Asian armies. I'm sure that Ofp will have all those features, but maybe it won't be as open as Arma since they do it for console too ... -------------------- OS: Windows 7 64bit

as I told you, we will never had scripted AI, which is in fact a non-AI.
Ragdolls are way difficult to implement in a game like ArmA, cause everything in this game is based on casual events (a soldier can go everywere, when he wants to) and so implementing rather than making ragdoll animations is hard to do -------------------- Visit my blog about Poker at Blogspot.com

The problem is not with difficulty, but with the FPS. Oblivion uses ragdolls (which is rather cool) but that slows the game down also. Try imagining a few dozens of soldiers dying with "ragdoll animations". Very spectacular, but FPS eater!

ragdolls is in tonnes of games with no problems, Rainbow 6 Vegas is 1 that i play often that has it, and also has the ability to take cover and lean from the walls in a much better way.
Frankly I aint touching ArmA II unless I see something worth while, its graphics aint worth the money and besides, to get the graphics to their peak you would need a top notch machine, something I aint spending a few grand of for a cloned game. Offer something new and I might look at it, atm OFP 1 has more features OFP2 however has my interest, depending on what it offers I might get that -------------------- |

ArmA and ArmA2 is not like them, since ArmA2 doesn't have scripted AI (which is really not an AI) and in OFP, ARMA, ARMA2, VBS1, VBS2, AI act everytime in different ways, that's why you can't have ragdolls, particular animations (like hiding behind a wall and playing a different animation)... They've always had to choose: scripted-AI, or free-AI -------------------- Visit my blog about Poker at Blogspot.com

Personally I don't need ragdolls, they would be eye-candy but nothing else. Supporting the statement of Linker Splits!

I am looking forward to Arma II, because it is the real next gen succesor of OFP from BIS, and i also share the opinions of Linker Split and Bence, that ragdolls are just needless detail in game like OFP,Arma or Ama II. And what about OFP2? Lets just wait, what Codemasters can do... But at the moment i prefer Arma II, although i must buy some new parts for my comp
