QUOTE(JdB @ Dec 10 2010, 17:02) *
The idea of "Afghanistan" that you have is probably more appropriately defined by the word "Helmand". There are many different kinds of environments and climates in Afghanistan.

Of course, there's a diverse range of different desert and arid conditions, such as Ghazni, Ghōr, Wardak, Takhar or Zabul. tongue.gif

The only provinces which differ greatly from any of these, are the ones along the borders, which countries such as... oh look - Tajikistan, odd that isn't it? It's like fate has somehow conspired to make codemasters look ignorant tongue.gif

Let's not be pedantic now, we both know they just picked a country out from a map that was middle-eastern and had borders with China, then decided "yeah, it'll look like this stuff we see on TV. Must do! It's in the middle-east!".

It's annoying that they jumped on the Afghanistan train after having tanked the franchise with Dragon Rising. It was WW2 when no other war was around, turned into Iraq when the shit hit the fan down there and now it's all about that lousy collection of rocks in Central Asia...

Hi, yeah.. it's kinda annoying, boring, repetitive or call it was you want the fact that most FPS shooters if not all... are based on afganistan, iraq or clones; no more fictional wars outside desert enviroments, no more fictional wars between existing countrys and everything seems based on the "be a heroic G.I. on the war on terror!!, your country needs you!" concept. Everyone forgets quickly the wars that are not on the TV so those ones don't sell that much. I don't have any faith on Codemasters anyways... they'd demostrated very well what's their thing. Let's C ya

What do you guys make of this?

I honestly can't wait, I think it's a brilliant decision from BIS. Just glad it's not entirely an April Fools joke. tongue.gif

Being able to step out the helicopter, and the retention of combat in the new engine is what does it for me. Just massively looking forward to an authentic helicopter sim in a detailed environment.

I will wait and see...

As a lapsed flight sim fan I see promise. I don't really like the helo's in FSX so this could be quite fun when not attempting to work out Black Shark.
And a civil distraction from LOMAC & Cliffs of Dover (Which is the first thing I will get when it's patched sufficiently to work and is in a boxed copy)

Yep, there was a group of us really looking forward to Cliffs of Dover. We're keeping our distance for now...

Talk about quality work, check out these Stukas! Rivet counters, eat your collective hearts out. Would not like to try and count those.

They are looking real sweet - i may have to buy this smile.gif partly also cause i want to know if they do a better job of "ArmA3" than Bis do ... lol
Also is Bis letting '44 incorporate new techs from A3? Ragdol, anims, destructibility and bunkers/ground depressions all look A3-ish

Yeah, I was wondering that too. I'd probably have to block the Arma 3 forums if I was in that mod team.

Check the lack of grass on top of that bunker, it's just a static object with the ground texture stuck on top of it, people have been doing that sort of thing since OFP happy.gif

Doubt there'll be any ArmA.3 code in this, but it wouldn't surprise me if the team added some new features to the engine of their own, just look how much they managed to change with LIBMOD for OFP, and that was all SQS.
