We think to make the island with those objects plus other ones I have in my mind... ETA we think at least December, maybe a gift for Cristmas , but we don't really know... bacause we want to release a BETA containing all the required addons to play a good Black hawk Down mission... wink.gif not only some stuff...

I've started today to make the map... it's still a difficult passage, but it can be done with about 1 week of full-immersion in tutorials! biggrin.gif

YAY!!!!
I figured out how to create islands with visitor!!!!



I studied the program, and I started making the map!!!!

textures used : 4 types (desert, grass, sandbeach, mud)

Satellite image created from scratch (sat.bmp 10240x10240 400Mb)

Not so great as BAS or BWC but it can be a good mod, BHD Mod.


Edit: Your first Screens of your map look a bit bad. The houses standing far away from each other.

I've done some new improvements...
here there's how I made our hummers!
Models are not BI original ones, but Jagy gave them to us from the old OFP BHD MOD (the czeck one) because they didn't continue their MOD smile.gif








and I re-made the M16-M203 (which like the hummer, was made by the old OFP MOD):

well, I'm applying all my 5-year knowledge to make the map be less laggy... thumbsup.gif

don't forget: ArmA houses are high poly, ours are low poly (about 500) but with materials applied to make them be more good-looking smile.gif

that's the main problem: make a map full of houses, objects, but not much laggy smile.gif

i'm doing the same as i did for OFP with my HDT island

not all the buildings, only some... because it's a hell of work to do with the buidlings tongue.gif
btw... yeah, the main goal is to insert a lot of people that will try to shoot at you.. and since in OFP deltas and rangers AI was able to hide behind barrels, or near walls, it will be a good work!!!

Just to answer the questions:

- The nose is painted with a special type of paint "invisible" to the radar beam. That's because the aircraft radar is inside it an the beam should pass through the nose. The rest of the chopper is painted with a paint that absorbs part of the received radar radiation (and thus become less "visible" to enemy radars). If we used the same paint in the nose our radar beam would become less powerful.

- Underside is clear because the chopper will be seen against the sky from the land. Clear colors make it less visible from enemies in the land.

- Top of the aircraft is painted dark because the chopper will be seen from above with the land behind. Same explanation (but inverse) than above.

Underside is painted clear to become less visible to the super "eyeball mk. I" radar wink.gif
Manpads are a real threat in the current conflicts, and this weapon should be employed (and aimed) by a man that first should use he's eyes.

In regards to the talk on camo I think that it is one of those things where both of the above opinions are right from a certain point of view.

For example in the real world the camo scheme on an aircraft whether it is fixed wing or rotary wing is really only of any use against the pilots of other aircraft because they are either looking down on or across at or up at each other when using "Mark 1 Eyeball" to spot a target.

When looking up at an aircraft from the point of view of a soldier on the ground camo is kinda pointless for 2 very obvious reasons in regards to using "Mark 1 Eyeball" to spot the target. Firstly is the amount of noise all aircraft make that gives you plenty of advanced warning of speed and direction while secondly is that aircraft will take on a shadowy silhouette when looking up at them (just look up when you hear a civilian aircraft flying over.

Now the rules for radar are very different. RAM or Radar Absorbent Materials such as paint or composites either absorb radar waves or deflect them at oblique angles thus reducing the RCS or Radar Cross Section of an aircraft on radar.

Its difficult to properly describe all this really because I do not fully understand how radar systems function because I have seen rather amusing and contradictory reports of simulated airial engagements where for example a lower tech aircraft has defeated a more advanced aircraft that has all the fancy "low observability" features. For example the number of times in simulated dogfights that American F/A-18F Super Hornets have engaged and defeated F-22A Raptors!

Although I do believe rotary wing aircraft such as helicopters to be death traps on the modern battlefield. Why you ask? Because the Battle of Mogadishu aka Black Hawk Down incident clearly showed that no matter how advanced your helicopter is, a determined opponent will bring them down with a combination of old fashioned unguided RPG's and small arms fire. Its a loud slow moving flying target that just begs to be shot down and yet it is the corner stone of modern battlefield operations... go figure hey?

Totally looks awsome cant wait to play it cause i hate the cities in Sahrani too small cant get lost in them but Somalia is it Mogadishu (cant spell it) you should make the hole map basicly just one huge giant city so people can easily get lost inside the city like down back allys and markets and stuff

I've got a mate who was in 1RAR when they were deployed to Somalia as part of the UN Peace Keeping Forces, his unit was stationed at Baidoa which was not far from Mogadishu. I found the way (with the help of Armored_Sheep, a BI developer) to create animations for an object that has been destructed!

As you can see on animations, they are still a bit rough, because I'm still learning the animation process... seems that there's no physics applied to the model, that's because I have to modify time of play, and make more frames (for the slum animation olny 35) smile.gif
Next pass: animate also vehicles (I'm asking some help to Deanosbeano)

But how will you do the extraction of TF Ranger from Mog on October 4th without the UN units?

And what us units will be made?

Rangers
Army SF (Delta dont exist officialy)
SOAR
Marines
Seals
Air Force Pararescue
Air Force Combat Controllers
10th Mountain Division

Ther wher alot more units in the country exept the D boys and the Rangers.

But like you all know Rangers lead the way!

Just a note, "Army SF" is a media term for the SOD-A or Green Berets, not SOD-D. Delta is a counter terrorism (CT) unit, well on "paper" anyway (not meaning actual paper).

Alors...
The map is gonna be 5120x5120 meters2.
The trick to create such a big city is to make various (about 15-17) pieces of city, then copy paste them one near another one... thumbsup.gif

Hey good work mate!
Remember the Mog both in the movie and in real life was half way between a rubbish dump and a war zone so try to max out on the messy scruffy look if you can. I know there is a limit on how much you can do before lag becomes an issue. When can I play test it and those weapons in the screenies? wub.gif

I'm experiencing lag when I'm in the bakara Market, that's due to the large amount of Objects in the map...
I'm trying to modify the LODS of the models, so we can enjoy the city without lag!

I noticed one thing, though - The terrain texture seems a bit off... Wait, scratch that. It's good, but look at how the sand looks in Mogadishu: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=2.069786,45.322294&spn=0.007141,0.014216&t=h&z=17&om=1

But when you do get into the main city, it becomes less visible because there's less of it. But look a little closer, because it still has a bit of that reddish color. I think a slight change hue adjustment could do the trick.

--> possibility to divide the chalk in 2 group: the first will create a diversion, the second will engage the enemy.

--> possibility to order soldiers to hide behind a wall, or a barrel or whatever is in the battlefield in that moment.

The weapons are looking really good. Since they are so high-detailed, why don't you try 3D modeling a hole on the M249 ammo box and some ammo there instead of just plain texture..? wink.gif Would add a nice touch.

I will explain you how the facts went:
A model maker of our team (The Boss, the one who made http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST&f=69&t=70446&st=0&&#entry1189769) told me to not give him any credits, he said that models were easy to make (of course, he imported them).
The strange thing is that everytime he gave me some models, he only gave me the 3DS max format of them, that's why I always say that I made those models, and that they are from scratch... sad.gif indeed what I did was to import them into O2 (from 3DS to P3D) and make all the needed LODS!

Anyway, we are taking precautions and I'm personally checking all the other models he gave me (since the others are 100% made by me, and seriously no importing process, I can use only Oxygen). for what I checked, only some models have been imported from Call Of Duty 4, but they are pukes, considering my 256 models we made.

I still apologize for the crappy inconvenience.

Beacause i noticed with the Sakakah Al Jawf Open Beta the ai loved to walk into walls and take 10 minuites to find a path to the other side of a house. Are there any Skinnies yet? dance.gif

we are a bit inactive at the moment, cause we are stuck in some problems like making some textures, some models and so on... many guys left the team (they had other things to do) so now we are 4-5 to work.
About the BETA: I don't know when we will release it, since we need at least the Delta units. Yurapetrov is making the BlackHawk, and he is doing a great job on it! Hummers with M2 are ready with scripts, island is at a good point.
So as you can see, we only need someone to help us out making textures.

btw no, no skinnies for now.

Okay mate cheers for that. I would lend a hand but ive only just started to learn how to make my own units. Putting models together is easy but texture's i dont even know where to start and then theres the config. Its all such a chore. Good luck even if progress is slow its still progress.

Linker Split's PC broke down, so he only visits the site from time to time. I think you will have to wait for a few more days/weeks to get a reply on this issue.

BHD MOD has been closed since 1 year because no more ppl could work on it.
