Hey LJF Here in the UK my college blocks download content and forums etc. Is it possible your campus techies cut you off? I think that might be the case, although it isn't blocked outright, I just get an error, armaholic.com has been blocked outright though, so I think this might be something different, perhaps some settings they changed. In any case, I can't change them back. |

//different subject
Had to re-enter my login details today after accidentaly clearing my wand passwords when i noticed a new bit. I entered it and came up with this error messsage: QUOTE You are not allowed to enter this forum section. This section is dedicated to the heart of the community..The addon artists. We will contact an addon maker if we think that he deserves to be in this forum section, however if you do have the feeling that you have enough experience to join this group, feel free to PM a member of the site staff. However we can not assure you that you will get access ! Whats that all about? I hope its a joke right? -------------------- |

I "may" have already tried that, but I "may" have not been able to download anything over 9mb ... nooo! Yeah, I tried a few but none would let me download my precious normandy mod. I'll try and use my local library ... muahahahahaha! Thanks though. |

I had this a while back when it was first made, if you've not had it fixed by now best go pester the head honcho or one of his lesser demons. EDIT: I'd assume you'd have access being 1) An island modder 2) A member of the .info team, otherwise this is standard bar one part of those forums. -------------------- Never before in the history of man, was so much buggered up by so few.

Some comments regarding the site and forum:
First the minor stuff: -The "About our website" section contains many stickied topics, some of which are outdated or not that important anymore, like: Pinned: IMPORTANT: Member Survey (old and no longer active) Pinned: New Website Features (it's old by now, and I think it is covered on the site as well) and Pinned: Temporary Moderation Actions (don't think it's needed anymore) Secondly: The Moderation Actions Thread ... as nice as trying to provide transparency is, right now it is just a summary of moderating actions, which is more than amply covered by the thread that the action is taken in, which I'm sure everyone that needs to know can find their way to, and without knowing the full facts, it still adds very little to the transparency. The UN makes lists/documents all the time, that's why it's a bureaucratic juggernaut that drowns in it's own paperwork, which achieves the exact opposite of transparency. (That was to compare it to something, not an invitation to discuss the workings of the UN) And third: I was interested in seeing the comments to Invasion 1944 newsposts in other language sections. So I first looked at the German section, and noticed that most of the newsposts were translated, but that there were hardly any comments (2 IIRC), and not for other newsposts either for that matter. Then on to the French section. It had a few comments more than the German section, but the newer I44 newsposts were never translated, and the last newspost on the bottom of the page is from January 2009, meaning hardly anything gets done. The Czech section is even worse, with the last newspost dating back to February 4th. Judging by the comments, hardly anyone uses the language sections, even the BIS ArmA2 related posts get hardly any comments. Now I know that this has been discussed many times since at least 2003 both internally and externally, but when I hear constantly that there aren't even enough newsposters to competently man the English section (highest priority), I wonder why these non-functioning, time absorbing failures are being continued, when the priority should be on by far the most used language of the site visitors: English. Hanging on to something for old time's sake does not work for any organization aimed at achieving results. This post has been edited by JdB: Mar 30 2009, 00:13 -------------------- |

Some comments regarding the site and forum: Agreed, I have cleaned up the remainings. First the minor stuff: -The "About our website" section contains many stickied topics, some of which are outdated or not that important anymore, like: Pinned: IMPORTANT: Member Survey (old and no longer active) Pinned: New Website Features (it's old by now, and I think it is covered on the site as well) and Pinned: Temporary Moderation Actions (don't think it's needed anymore) Secondly: That's an odd comparison then. You had been administering these forums for quite a time, too. We're not drowning in "paperwork". I strongly believe that this thread will answer questions before some members even feel a need to ask for an explanation. Moreover there could be situations where there simply is no thread to look up what action has been taken and why. That's the exact reason why I opened this thingy here: Thunderbird84 has been banned for sending insulting PMs to Vilas, not solely for his post in the P85 topic. Obviously W0lle couldn't know that, that's why he asked for disclosure in the Feedback Thread. The Moderation Actions Thread ... as nice as trying to provide transparency is, right now it is just a summary of moderating actions, which is more than amply covered by the thread that the action is taken in, which I'm sure everyone that needs to know can find their way to, and without knowing the full facts, it still adds very little to the transparency. The UN makes lists/documents all the time, that's why it's a bureaucratic juggernaut that drowns in it's own paperwork, which achieves the exact opposite of transparency. (That was to compare it to something, not an invitation to discuss the workings of the UN) Some sections of these forums have 500+ threads with 50,000 replies all in all. It is not that easy to find the exact reason in there why someone has been subjected to a moderation action if you don't know where to search. Thus you can suppose that this thread here will make moderation more transparent and save us of at least two replies in each case. And third: Good points being made here, but you're surprisingly very one-sided. Not the lack of newsposters is the problem, but the lack of newsposters who post. In public I ain't gonna say more about this as it has many different reasons of course. Most of the staff are busy with their graduation or at least a part time job. None of us can post regularily without being pressed for time. I was interested in seeing the comments to Invasion 1944 newsposts in other language sections. So I first looked at the German section, and noticed that most of the newsposts were translated, but that there were hardly any comments (2 IIRC), and not for other newsposts either for that matter. Hanging on to something for old time's sake does not work for any organization aimed at achieving results. And yes, we still discuss this matter internally. -------------------- |

Hi, yeah now seems that everything works without any problem, i guess that im doomed;
when the page began to work normaly again... then it told me the same about the forum, but now... it works... i swear that i haven't drink that much (yet) today. Seriously. Im doomed... i hope that everything keeps working well and that the only dead forum be the BIS forum; that will rise from grave as Jessie now in this Semana Santa days when all the Klan's men fill our streets and poison our TVs. Hanging on to something for old time's sake does not work for any organization aimed at achieving results. I'm french, and i read only the english pages. I have always thought that the pages with the other langauges are useless, English is the international language, and now most of the people can understand this language. And there are already tons of websites for each language or People. Armedassault.info should be a general website only in English. my 2 cents -------------------- |

just a little question:
when Arma2 will released, a special section for the modding stuff (addons, islands, scripting...) will be created exclusively for Arma2? -------------------- |

Haven't really worked it out as far as I am aware but I am supposing the deal will be the same forum with a separate ArmA II section, the OT threads will remain common to both communities.
