Looks... interresting... But isn't it illegal? Or have you asked a permission from BIS to do this?

We have approached BIS and they are thrilled about the prospect. We are just waiting on confirmation of a US/UK publisher.

This is kind of along the lines of what i was expecting with the join in progress ability with ArmA. Massive continual battles raging for days at a time eg: normandy beaches. wave after wave of attack an defend.
As long as dude up there doesnt make money from it why would BIS make it illigal? Surley its just a bigger form of clan play? BTW happy birthday SK, how many candles this year? cheers, carver -------------------- |

Correct, the costs are mearly to cover the costs of multiple game servers, TS, Web, and forums. The prices will be adjusted to reflect any savings etc. -------------------- |

It costs to cover costs. Just like clans have either subscription fees or a donation system. We have spent about 1200 USD so far to make this happen for the benefit of the community.

Sounds nice so far, but shouldn't it be in the MP section?

sounds awsome what your planning to do. One question that comes to mind is is there going to be enough server slots for a divisioned sized force for 2 teams?

sounds awsome what your planning to do. One question that comes to mind is is there going to be enough server slots for a divisioned sized force for 2 teams? Great question. One of the bewauties of our tournament is that it si scalable. Whether we have 20 people play or 2000, we can accomodate it. Here is a bit on the structure: 5-6 people in a company 4 or 5 companies in a battalion 3 or 4 battalions in a brigade 3 or 4 brigades in a division If you include specialty regiments and other various units, we will have a max capacity of about 250 people for a division. You are correct though. There is no way possible to shove 500 people on a server. Part of the Beta tour will be to figure out exactly how many yuo can fit on a server comfortably. We have worked in the theory of simoltaneous campaigns. Basically what tht means is each brigade will be responsible for it's own actions. Thus, will be on two separate servers. With the tournament, each brigade as a certain allotment of men and machines. So lets say for example the 1st brigade, 82nd AD looses all it's choppers. They can request reinforcements from the 2nd brigade. However that will deplete from their stockpile. Or if there is a certain mission or objectives that yields extra choppers, they can go for that. Anywho, the moral of the story is that since the battles perpetuate week to week, you can run multiple servers on a given day and share resources between them The other thing to think about is that even thoough you may have 250 in a division, during the 12 hour day, you may only max out at like 50-60. In which case it is easy to cycle your players in and out. -------------------- |

I thought that ArmA only allowed 64 players? :O The player count is limited to the the server limitations. Got a beefy server, you can shove more guys on it. That is what we were told. -------------------- |

That is what we were told. better find the 52oz steak of the server world then! if you could get say 100 to a server, then you could have a battalion and a 1/2 a server per team. -------------------- |

Again, that is what the Beta tour is for. We have contingency plans for both situations. Either way it is going to be a heck of a time.

This sounds a bit like that ww2 game there was that went on for days at a time...
Great idea though. That game had hundreds per side and it was an FPS bit laggy though. -------------------- -------------------- Heed my words or risk being beaten with a stick then fed to my associate D@V£ The Rules - Most places have rules, these are ours Read them!
