Hello I bought today my Arma and updated it to 1.14, all fine. But when I double click the arma icon on my desktop everything seems fine but when the "progress bar" ends, the screen blinks once very fast almost unoticeable and then nothing happens, checked the task manager and arma is there happy but doing nothing.
Tried to do some tricks abour running my vista capping the max ram to 3072, and that stuff that people talks in the forum but nothing worked out. My system is: Quad Core Extreme (QX9650) 8Gb Ram Corsair detonator. Sound Blaster X-fi. Ageia PhysX Ati HD 3870X2 Wacom Intuos 3 Multicard reader... compact flash etc... you know. Saitek Cyborg Evo Force drivers and stuff updated. Logitech mx518. 1 Raid 0 Western Digital 10.000 rpm 250gb <- Arma is here at c:\Arma\ 1 Western Digital 500Gb Windows Vista Bussiness Original Certified, updated today. 64 bit edition. ATI Catalyst 8.4 All drivers are up to date except Catalyst, because if I use 8.5 drivers disable 16 bit per channel viewing and my working application Houdini Master doesnt like it. :S There is any way i can do something to fix this ? Oh I almost forgot it, my desktop is running at 1920x1200 32bit. This post has been edited by gonmax: Jun 12 2008, 23:25 |

have you tried running it in adminastrator mode? you have to go into the programme files and find the .exe for ARMA then right click on it and there should be an option "run as Adminastrator". I don't know if this will work but if you haven't already tried it then its worth a go.

Arma doesn't really like Quad cores and Corsair RAMs! Maybe that's the problem. Not to mention 64bit!
Many reported similar problems... -------------------- HUNS

ArmA doesn't really like Windows 64bit. Quad Core and Corsair RAM shouldn't be an issue though. I'm not sure about the particulars of the business edition of Vista, but that could also be the problem, it isn't really designed with gaming in mind...
That said, there's supposedly a bug with 4gb+ of RAM, I'm not sure of the particulars, but this could be your problem. (Capping RAM might not work ingame. Try simply removing the RAM and checking to see if it works then) How have you patched this? I'm not sure of the particulars of the US edition, but you might need to install the 1.08 patch before installing the 1.14. I don't think this could be the problem (because it should refuse to install 1.14 if you've not got 1.08) but it's worth a shot. My advice: 1. Check for any graphics driver updates and make sure you've got the latest DirectX (if you're running vista any version of DX10 should be sufficient) 2. If you've got it on, turn off Vista's User Account Control. It's nothing but trouble and I've known it to cause similar problems to the ones your experiencing. 3. Reinstall, see if you can run it without the 1.14 patch. If this works patch up to 1.14 and see if that's the problem. If none of these work, then there's not much else I can advise. -------------------- The Rules <- Nothing too difficult. There's no excuse for breaking these.

Hi,
I have a very similar setup (Quad 9650, 3870x2, Vista Ultimate 64-bit, X-fi) etc, and have been struggling with the same issue. Until 1.14 update, the game played just fine - after 1.14, the only way to get the game to display anything is to add the "-dsound" option to the shortcut. But doing this opens a can of worms with audio making the game unplayable (small fragments of what sounds like speech sequences blurt over the normal audio). So -dsound is not feasible for me, but maybe it will help for you. Anyone else figure out a proper solution to this? Cheers, HopeS |
