Remember to keep the landing speeds relatively low. Do not deploy flaps beyond Combat above 300 km/h. Most planes of the era have landing speeds in the region of 100 +/- 20 knots - doing 160 or 170 km/h just before touchdown works for most of the planes. Land using full flaps, and keep your engine on for power reserve - keep the power low to slow down, and once there, rev up a bit so that you can hold the speed. Gently reduce altitude and speed - with normal tailwheel landing gear you should be pretty much level when touching down. After you're stable on the tarmac, cut the engine power and start braking softly.
I suggest you start with something relatively big and slow, with wide landing gear (reduces the chances of rolling). If you can keep the plane level (rolling isn't an issue), something like B-25, P-38 or even a Zero might do the trick. Japanese planes tend to have very low wing loading, good handling and wide landing gear - they're quite forgiving. Also, just do touch 'n goes. That is, landing without stopping, and taking off again. Lets you to practise all you want, and gets you familiar with the approach, since maintaining the correct line, rate of descend and speed is essential. Hell, just practise approaching the field, slowing down to below 200 km/h (don't stall!), and then flying over the field. Rinse and repeat, as they say for shampoo... once you're able to position yourself nicely, start doing shallow approaches, flying somewhat overly long approaches with gear down, keeping the thing above stall speed, getting the idea of how the things respond to drag and engine power at low speeds... once you reach the runway, practise touchdowns as I've said before. With all these people having Il-2 around here, you'll surely find plenty of advice. If you wish, we can arrange multiplayer events - I've hosted some simple fly-around missions myself quite a few times, with simple direct IP connection. At best we've had quite a few players, too, and you're quite likely to have atleast me and Helping Hand around flying, with possibly the likes of Witty, BigglesTrevor (aka TrevorOfCrete), Benoist (never seen him online, tho'), da rat, and, uhhh... the German dude. Don't worry... you wouldn't be the first one to begin early with my MP games... HH was brought into the pilot world largely by me *cough*, as were few others who bought Il-2... Oh, and as HH said, feel free to try AAA. The Unified Installer has lots of stuff in it and adds lots into the vanilla game, changing the way the planes sound and behaves, amongst other things. There are few very nice, and handy addons that I may list later, unless HH is quicker... Its been months since I've played, the few of my old JG2 crew left have pretty much become a Red Orchestra crew of 4 players with the rest out of touch for several months or have moved on to other things. We always talk about flying again though...perhaps in the upcoming holidays we can stay up late and use HH for practice. I miss my Bf109F4.
Nothing facilitates learning ACM and going defensive like having myself spitting lead at your arse. If I am nice I wont use the 20 mike mike. I need to fly the MiG29 is LOMAC again too...sexy beast. -------------------- |

Alot of beginers also like to completely cut there throttle when landing. This is a sure way to stall on approach, you should gradually let your throttle down to about 30% if your speed is correct, depending on aircraft.

Hmm... I can't seem to get it working right... just hangs trying to register an account and crashes a lot with some of the later training missions (the medical and MOUT ones)... I don't know if this my PC not liking the UT3 engine (it wasn't too keen on Bioshock either) or just some intermediate issues... probably try again tomorrow or something....

Americas Army 3 (AA3) is ok when you get it working, it like many other MMORPGs (It is essentially that) underestimated the server load upon launch and the Authentication server used for handling accounts etc got a kick in the proverbial goolies.
Not played since I went to France so dunno what it's like 3 or 4 weeks on. Though I've gotta say I liked it alot when I did play, the addition of actually quite good VOIP in game is rather nice. There still a few things to be added but I'm sure it'll only get better but if not you didn't hear it from me and if you did I'm not a credible source... -------------------- Never before in the history of man, was so much buggered up by so few.

Velvet Assassin You play Violette Summers, a British special agent lying in a hospital in France and reflecting on her previous missions. + Great atmosphere, "Velvet assassin" is an anti-war-game + Awesome graphic, the picture above is ingame-graphic + Good animations + Very accurate depiction of equipment, uniforms etc. + Very lively AI enemies which have funny conversations and do things you would not expect (like stopping their patrols to piss etc.) + Depiction of ruthless violence not for enjoyment but as a means to an end + There's a lot of variation in the missions + Violette Summers is a the hottest thing a developer/designer could have ever come up with - Only auto save function maybe every ten minutes (depends on the mission), which makes this game fucking difficult and frustrating - Dreary music - Level design is indeed great, but not very varied - AI enemies are mean sons of bitches which will always exactly know where you are - If alarmed, the AI will very quickly forget about your presence again, which makes it a little bit more easy, yet is very unrealistic - Until the very last level, you're damn short of ammunition - Game is a typical case of "transferred to computer" - Some minor bugs -------------------- |

If that was "Modern Warfare", then ISAF would have had about 35.000 KIA. What a joke. It's good ol' Quake with unrealistic modern weapons.

I concur it's not exactly a sim but hey if that many people like it then what's wrong with that.

I concur it's not exactly a sim but hey if that many people like it then what's wrong with that. Like Stalin! Lot's of russians would vote for him, if they like him, what's wrong! It occurs that 12 year old kids think of themselves as ubersoldiers because they made a level in one nano second less that another 12 year old kid, who is now a n0ob. EDIT: And yes godamit, I like to change the context of the conversation. And mention "Stalin" at very oportunity. EDIT2: And godamit, if that was ironic then ignore this post.
