Reuters
CNN - most comprehensive coverage so far

In short - an 18-year-old student (my age to be exact) at Jokela High School pulled out a handgun (Beretta or SIG-Sauer) during class at rougly 10 am GMT. He went systematically through the half-empty school and the incident eventually left to what now seems to be 8 casualties, including the gunman. 12 people besides the shooter were taken to the hospitals nearby. Most of the shot people (5 boys, 2 girls, 1 middle aged woman - school head master) were apparently shot in the lower lobby. Reportedly the police fired no shots during the incident, but arrived before the last shots were fired.

Atm MTV3 is broadcasting a police press conference.

I'm betting it won't be long before Jack Thompson sees this... so I just have to put down my counterpoint;
QUOTE(CNN)
YouTube appeared to have removed 89 videos linked to his account, many of them featuring Nazi imagery, shortly after the incident.

The Columbine incident happened on the anniversary of Hitler's Birth, the Virgina tech incident happened on the anniversy of Rudolf Hoess's death. Obviously I'm the only one seeing a pattern here, amiright?
Blackscorpion
Well, some of his vids did feature references to i.e. the Columbine massacre. According to the news and his friends, he was a bit of an oddball, and an avid fan of i.e. Hitler and Stalin. "This is my war, my battle [--] against the weak", or something to that effect, from his homepage apparently.

The shooter is still alive, although in critical condition. He tried to shoot himself with the .22 handgun.

RIP to the victims. Official half-flagging has been ordered for tomorrow.

This seems to feature most of his... material. No, it isn't his page - more of a quick documentary about him.
pMASTER
Rest in Peace to the victims and a speedy recovery to all survivors.
I wonder how long it will take until someone blames violent video games again.

By the way Scorpy, why have you come up with such a crappy title?!
Blackbuck
He's a very cynical man which explains the title... I agree on the video games blamage, people sometimes just crack or go on a whim for other reasons than GTA San Andreas...
JdB
Topic title edited, a little cruel towards the victims to name the act of an idiot after a movie for children.
Avalla'ch
Oh, damned I know that sometimes I want to do same thing with my teacher but.....yeah this is pretty sad sad.gif

Well, I gotta second your comments guys, what game will J.T. blame now huh?
Blackscorpion
Well he did ask that nobody except him should be blamed... considering that there were these cases much before the major advent of games, I do see his point. Then again... I've never touched any of the GTA genre since GTA2.

And yes, JdB and Mark got the reference... seemed fitting enough. It wasn't meant to be a direct reference though, but the... tone the words go seemed ironical enough to me.

While I may agree with the first insight about columbine shootings. I totally disagree about the second incident at Virgina Tech, that shooter was a very disturbed person, he was also of South Korean origin who's parents had immigrated to the United States, so I doubt he thought about Hitler or any of his henchmen while committing his heinous act.

I bet if you tried har enough you could link every serial killing to a bad day for a Nazi.
D@V£
That's clearly because they're controlling our minds from their secret moonbase! ohmy.gif

haha yeh, and by the way i wasnt questioning your logic, i was trying to be smart. I think theres a scary rise in interest in the Nazis beliefs and national socialism in general. The easy way out is to blame it on computer games. This kid obviously had a copy of Football Manager 2008.

Same goes for communism. The only reason people are more terrified of national socialism is because the Germans lost the war and didn't get to write history, and the Sovjets did. Otherwise we'd be speaking of the Sovjet warcriminals now, and not the Algemeine SS, Gestappo, Einsatzgruppen or common servicemen commiting crimes.

Casualties:

Females, age: 61, 43, 18
Males, age: 18, 18, 18, 18, 17, 16

Weaponry: .22 SIG Mosquito, roughly 500 rounds. Some Molotovs. 69 shots in total were fired, and apparently most of them hit. Police officers never fired a shot, and entered the building at around 4 pm local time.

What's it been today in Finland... first thing in the morning, our high school head master gave a speech over the school radio. Then some discussion. Nationwide one-minute silence of respect, standing up and in my case, in attention. At noon, a church service was held in Helsinki, with President Halonen attending the service, and the service being broadcasted nationwide over radio and TV. Parliament held a meeting, but instead of the usual daily business they mainly discussed the incident.

Nearly all flag poles I saw had a Finnish flag raised halfway.

The shooter's profile was quite simple: a highly educated, and most likely intelligent, but a bit lonely and depressed guy, who had very... controversial views such as the before mentioned "natural selection" and other extremist views.

Hi, i'll say that anyone that shoots another man/woman in a civilian society, is an asshole; but... i can think in various
reasons that will make someone to deserve to die; this don't seems to be the case so we've because this asshole/shooter
seems to have shooted people randomly and then shoot himself, the CNN says that the son of the bitch is so dumb that
he still alive after put a slug in his empty head (whatasucker...) but if the blame of this "disaster" is from the video games...
then what we've to think...?! that he's a team killer?! that he's part of the TKC mutha f*ckas & a script went wrong in his
mind?! could he/we claim that this "disaster's" blame is due to the lag...?? to the server maybe...??. I think that he's a team
killer, but the good part is that we've 9 to 10 fins less in the world so there're now 9 to 10 nazis less in the world. Which is
a good new, but not good enough. Let's C ya >>;-)

You better tell me now via PM that I've misinterpreted your post and just did not get some sort of retarded joke of yours because otherwise I'll have to come up with some nasty evil ideas regarding your ability to post in these forums.

//Edit
The matter has been discussed internally. Wipman, I suggest you exercise yourself in restraint. Your comment is regarded as flaming and shows total disregard for the victims of this horrible crime.

Not to sure about the Fins, but firearms laws in some countries are utter nonsense and dangerous, im from london and we do get quite a few shootings from gangs ect from my area, but as firearms are illegal there are not a massive amount, were as for instance in some states the US you can buy assault rifles!?! machine guns ect. For hunting fair enough a rifle of some sort but not an m16, US is a massive country and fair enough in the constitution it says americans have the right to bare arms, but theres got to be a line drawn somewhere!

Maybe you think so, but it's not true. In fact countries with strict firearm laws don't show less gun-related crime than those with generous regulations.
Jeza
Put it this way, you figures are right im sure however I was in Long beach california for 4months and saw on the news about more shootings than where I live in UK all year, and more over I live in London where gun crime is riffe, but its still nothing compared to california. Anyway figures are figures, living around it and working on the streets changes your perspective a whole lot
pMASTER
Indeed it does. So does media coverage of crime.
There was an interesting study over here in Germany were scientists found out that the majority of the population did agree that sexual offenses would be on an all time high despite in fact shrinking numbers of registered crimes. The sole reason was that media coverage led to an increased attention. Ergo, just that you hear a lot about crime doesn't mean there is more crime.
Jeza
True crime is down in parts of London, but you wouldnt know it hearing the news!
