Pff. He didn't bite, he just kissed you.
Well, paramedic isn't really the right term, the german emergency medical service differs from the anglo-saxon model which doesn't have a special "emergency physician" with
own car as we have here. EMT-P in the US for example are allowed to perform stuff like intubations, giving drugs and so on whereas in Germany such actions are a privilege of the physician (Exception: He delegates it to us or the patient is in a too critical condition to wait for the physician). So we have other qualifications here (in fact, we know how to do most stuff but aren't allowed to do it ^^): Mostly "Rettungssanitäter" and "Rettungsassistent". Rettungssanitäter (for example me
) have a 520h training (160h theory, 160h hospital, 160h emergency service as "third person", 40h certification seminar) while Rettungsassistenten do 2 years (1y theory / 1y emergency service) of schooling/training.
My job is mainly to drive or lead an
"small ambulance" which does mostly qualified patient transport (from old people's home to hospital, from hospital to hospital, from hospital to old people's home blablabla) but sometimes also emergencies, or, if I had the right driving licence (
need at least C1, over 3,5to ...
) , to drive a
"big ambulance" (co-driver is always a Rettungsassistent)
