The Armed Forces "Game"
Well for all the fledgling arms dealers and dictators on the forum (Me, Andy, Andi and Scorpy really) Here's the scenario... QUOTE You take the place of the new position of Minister of Defence for [Insert your country here]. Your country can be as old or as new as you want it to be, be that a small nation that recently declared its independence from a larger country or union thereof such as Russia, or a nation as old as China...
Now that your country has been established it is time to build the armed forces of it to keep your countrymen/women safe, oh and you have nearly unlimited power - the rest of the government / parliament will trust your decisions if you have one that is, feel free to list things like diplomatics, training, joint defence pacts, acquiring arms/hardware from existing nations, organisation of units etcetera. So then armchair generalissimos how do shape the armed forces of YOUR country? ------------------------------------------------ Please remember: No images over 150KB No profanity or abusing other members for their views on political or other beliefs/views (within the forum rules) No spam No upsetting the site team or anyone with a ban hammer Please also note: || To make things easier to read through for people; There should be some basic categories for equipment and such are split into the following;
Feel free to add your own or take away ones depending on your nation's circumstances ------------------------------------------------ Enjoy the thread and go and make your nations

Sweet
The country of Steronia (pronounced St-ee-rone-ia) is relatively new but large, lying on the south-east tip of Canada. They had succeeded from Canada with the help of the U.S. and are now part of the U.N. and NATO. They are strong allies with plenty of European countries and the U.S., and get along with Canada most of the time. They are a fairly small country, about the size of Texas. Their main source of income is their abundance of Mercenaries. Their military is extremely skilled in the ways of Special Operations and all military servicemen (or women) are para-jump qualified, meaning that oftentimes it's best to look for them towards the skies if they're coming in for a SpecOps mission. They have nearly no Navy except for a few warships and some carriers, and next to no nuclear arsenal considering how new they are. They are very Americanized and often work in conjunction with them. They use DPM, BDU, and digital camo's reminiscent to Marpart and Desert Marpat. # Infantry Weapons and Equipment Standard Equipment FN SCAR-L default with a EOTech 552 or Aimpoint CompM2, depending on the preference of the wielder FN SCAR-H marksman variant, using a specialized ACOG with IR capabilities for special forces operations FN SCAR-L CQB with EOTech 552 Squad Automatic Weapon They use the Mk48 Mod 1 with Elcan M145 combat optics Anti Light armor currently they only have access to the M136 Anti-Tank Javelin anti-tank guided launcher # Soft Skinned Vehicles They use a modified humvee for nearly all purposes # Armoured Fighting Vehicles The M1A2 TUSK MBT # Artillery M109A6 "Paladin # Air Defence Systems AN/TWQ-1 Avenger # Helicopters UH-60 Black Hawk AH-1W SuperCobra MH-6 Little Bird AH-6 Little Bird # Combat Aircraft F-35 Lightning II Lockheed AC-130 Harrier Jump Jet A-10 Warthog # Support Aircraft Lockheed C-130 Hercules Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey # Landing Crafts Landing Craft Utility |

As power these days comes through money my "nation" is based on a hypothetical corporate power.
Paradigm International Emerging from virtually no where in late 2015 Paradigm industrial swiftly rose to dominance of the Biomedical and Pharmaceutical industry through strategic marketing of treatments for old and emerging deseases and health conditions combined with highly lucrative contracts from governments around both the devloped and developing world. In recent years Paradigm has expanded it's operations into military, computer, aviation and various weapons systems technology industries. Due to the constant threat of industrial and governmental espionage, combined with the prying nose of the media and threats from activist groups Paradigm has had a private security wing which like the other departments of the company has numerous contracts world wide in close protection and as security detachments for government, and company facilities. Paradigm Security Services employs from former military and law enforcement groups around the world, producing a security firm with a wealth of experience and knowledge for every scenario. ------- Small Arms: Assault Rifles/Sub Guns/Side arms/Misc Other. At a size of 220080 sq km Scor Nango is slighly smaller than the Japanese main island Honshu, whilst at a population of 9.8 million (estimated to increase to 10.1 million by 2015) it is comparable to many European nations. The armed branch of the SN government is the Scor Nango Defence Force (SNDF), made up of the Army, Air Force and Navy. The Interior Ministry (SNIM) operates the National Police organisation, the National Security Service (SNNSS) and the SN Coast Guard (SNCG), all of which have access to medium weaponry but are assisted by SNDF if needed. SNNSS also operates a small, highly trained security section (often dubbed "Secret Service") specialized in counter-terrorism, state facilities protection and heads-of-government protection. SNDF is made out of roughly 97,000 active personnel and 1,080,500 reservists, bringing the peacetime readiness of the forces up to 12% of the national population - the number doesn't involve the paramilitary nature of the security forces during the war, nor the paramilitary local volunteer forces (Home Guard) tasked with easier, non-essential defence functions. The SNDF is equipped with a wide variety of weaponry, procured from a wide variety of sources. Most of the equipment and military doctrine is westernized, with obvious local differences. -------------------------------------------------- Small arms Assault & battle rifles, carbines SIG SG 550 - At the beginning of 20th century, the military largely followed Prussian traditions, and up until WW2 the troops were mostly issued wool sarge uniforms in shades between grey and green, whilst during the hottest summer months green cotton "working" uniforms were issued. Some camouflage items were issued in the mid-30s, but the large scale use of camouflage clothing and accesories didn't start until the later parts of WWII, as various combatants were observed using them. After the war, the military tried to gather as much info and items of various nationality as possible. By the early 50s, the issue uniform could be described as a combination of British and US trends with a national and historic touch - US M43/M51 style forest green uniform, with a British style camouflage parka and camo patterns and helmet design adopted from late-war Germany. The uniforms were updated during the years, with arid/desert kit being developed for peacekeeping forces and new camouflage patterns being adopted. The newest in the line is the M09 pattern uniform. The uniform follows the traditions of combining various Western uniforms into a single, effective system. While the general style of the uniform was retained, updates and additions were done based on user feedback, and observations on private purchases. A few highly respected private companies were also contacted to submit proposals and to help design and modify the items suggested. Instead of using velcro for most part, the system uses both large and small "Canadian/British" style buttons to close down pockets, storm flaps etc. Besides buttons and the occasional velcro, YKK supplies zips for SN. For field repairs, soldiers are issued with a small universal repair kit. To replace the earlier 5-colour ERDL-based woodland camouflage, the R&D team contacted Hyperstealth; the eventual result was the adoption of 5 different patterns based on the Eurospec scheme. The patterns are named Woodland (aka Summer), Arid, Desert, Woodland-Winter and Winter. Equipment is mostly manufactured in Ranger Green, whilst desert/arid items are made in tan. For special purposes, some items are also made in camouflage.

Words were coming out of my fingertips faster than my thoughts could process them in my brains... My plead is for temporary insanity that was caused by permanent insanity of very, very twisted nerve cluster that's called brain matter, that's supposed to be grey but isn't, it's black and has a somewhat sarcastic and dark sense of humor, or lacks it totally. I like the customs and habits especially the British and Commonwealth armies maintain, e.g. the traditional regimental colors, uniform distinctions and so on. The Nazis destroyed these traditional lines in Germany and the Bundeswehr put them over the edge at last. Few German units have bynames nowadays and especially few recruit from traditional target groups. Something as a traditionally Scottish dominated regiment is unthinkable in the Bundeswehr. The Austrian Bundesheer "rescued" some of these, Light Infantry Battalion 1 for example bears the honor name "Grand- and Teutonic Masters" in dependence on the Ancient Order of the Teutonic Knights. How cool is that?
But Bavaria still maintains parts of a traditional tribe thinking (in part, the provinces I've created in the map are equal to the traditional settlement area of the old Bavarian tribes) and I'd say if we could, we'd organize our army in a very regionalized way to increase the esprit de corps. That's why I'd give the units distinctive names in the style of the Pre-1918 Bavarian Army. -------------------- |

I quite like how we've managed to maintain such traditions despite the stupid cutbacks (like merging all of my local regiments into one REGIMENT) etcetera.

Well, as I understand it few British regiments were actually larger than battalions right?
The few regiments we maintain for example consist of up to 1,800 men and women and are usually commanded by a Colonel im Generalstab, basically a Colonel with the authorities of a Brigadier General. -------------------- |

Linky Go check this in relation to the Mercians. As for command I believe it is a Colonel here too not sure about his authorities in the higher command chain though.

Yes, that's more of a regiment.
Well, over here they had lots of regiments both in the field army and the territory army till the end of the Cold War. When the Iron Curtain fell and every nation castrated their militaries, most of them were disbanded as well. Nowadays we have mostly battalions which are directly subordinate to crippled brigades. -------------------- |

See the new post!
Flag: (In some variants the stripe is positioned underneath the central circle or colours may be inverted, there is no known significance to any particular version) Background The Transhuman Consortium (founded 1992) combines elements of a international political movement, global organisation and mercenary group while simultaneous being none of these. While the consortium does not own any land outside territories already claimed by governments, they do have a political presence in small number of countries. The consortium's sole goal is the "advancement of humanity". This has inevitably led to a large degree of opposition from various religious groups, culminating in a large number of rallies against attempts by the consortium to expands its influence, particularly in regions close to the middle-east and the "Bible Belt" of the United States. In more extreme cases it has led to the consortium being declared a criminal organization by more religiously motivated governments. The consortium's military power (though they would never refer to it as such, officially the consortium only maintains a security force in the same way that any large corporation would) is rarely seen in action for two reasons. The consortium rarely has need to perform military operations, and when it is necessary, the consortium will almost always request the help of either other countries armed forces or mercenary groups. The consortium's armed forces consist of four separate groups. The GCF (Ground Control Force, also referred to as TCGCF), consisting recruited from local sympathisers and disbanded when not required (50-75 officers hold permanent positions), and the ARF (Armed Reconnaissance Force, also referred to as TCARF), a small standing force (250-500 members) used for specialist operations (the Consortium denies all knowledge of acts of industrial espionage). The MTG (Marine Transit Group) and ATG (Airborne Transit Group) are the consortium's equivalent of a navy and air force, respectively. In combat situations they are uniquely used for deployment (though many vehicles are fitted with weapons for self-defence), and otherwise better resemble merchant organizations than military groups. The Dresden Proclamation The Dresden proclamation is, in simplistic terms, to "constitution" of the consortium. It is based upon the transhumanist declaration, though, somewhat modified to fit without the consortium's technocratic political agenda. 1. The consortium shall be led by those found most capable of leadership. For every thousand consortium member, there shall be one of these individuals. They are free to designate or dissolve position to those underneath them. (Post foundation amendment #2) 1.1. Until a better system is found, democracy proves the most valid method of determining these individuals. (Post foundation amendment #4) 1.2. As the consortium requires the need to make decisions quickly, there must always be an odd number of these individuals, therefore, two shall be appointed every other thousandth inductee. 2. The consortium's goal - from which all other objectives must derived - is to aid humanity (or post-humanity) in the development of technologies to better the human condition. (Post foundation amendment #1) 2.1. It has been found that this inevitably brings the consortium into conflict with reactionary groups. While military action against these groups is regrettable, the future needs of the species (or intelligence) as a whole, must be considered more important than empty dogma or patriotism. 3. The consortium recognises the danger of new technology, but believes the needs of the species (or intelligence) as a whole is not suitably served by precautionary principals. 4. The consortium opposes religious and patriotic dogma. Such concepts serve no use to the species. (Post foundation amendment #3) 4.1. It is not reasonable for the consortium to attempt full scale removal of these beliefs from the species (or at least, not in the short term), however, it is expected for all consortium members to renounce them upon induction. 5. The consortium recognises all intelligence, be it human, artificial or otherwise, to be equal. 6. The consortium recognises the basic rights (life, liberty, security) of all intelligence, and advocates the well being of these. 7. The consortium recognises the property of democratic nations, and will not attempt to infringe upon it without good reason or the permission/request of said nation. Government The consortium is ruled by it's three most senior members (known collectively as the proclamate), these three hold the position of "PRC" - proclamator. At the current time (20110305), these compose of: M5/24-PRC (Proclamator Maus) K5/51-PRC (Proclamator Kodac) S5/86-PRC (Proclamator Scorpius) The proclamate act as a sort of "board of directors" for the consortium, determining the deployment of assets. Once the global situation is assessed, and options clearly recognised, the proclamate vote on the best course of action for the consortium. Ranking: Consortium forces use a different ranking system to most armed groups. Each soldier is given a name (usually a word that holds special meaning to the individual, or a letter of the phoenetic alphabet) and number (usually 2 digts for standard infantry, or 4 digits for disposible assets). For example, Ghost-64. This is then further augmented by a generation number, determining the soldier's actual worth to the consortium (ranging from 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest, and 5 being the highest. Members of the GCF will rarely have a generation number over 3, and it is uncommon to see ARF operators with generation numbers under 3. Disposable assets will use D in the place of this.), in common speech, this will be placed between the name and unit number. Finally, each soldier will be given a position, further determining their rank, conventionally a three letter acronym at the end of the designation. Interestingly enough, this system is also used for various non-human assets of the consortium. Determining "who's the boss" in any situation will always be determined first by position, then by generation. For example: F2/41-SAA (Firehound, Generation 2, unit 41, Standard Anti-Armour) K4/02-ATO (Kestral, Generation 4, unit 02, Advanced Tactics Operator) R1/28-SRi (Raven, Generation 1, unit 28, Standard Rifle) F3/72-SLe (Falcon, Generation 3, unit 72, Squad Lead) C2/41-WVC (Crux, Generation 2, unit 41, Wheeled Vehicle Crew) U1/66-LVC (Union, Generation 1, unit 66, Logistics Vehicle Crew) HD/0063-ISV (Hotel, Disposable, unit 0063, Inducted Support Vehicle) LD/0041-RLG (Lima, Disposable, unit 0041, Recruited Local Guide) KD/0223-FSU (Kilo, Disposable, unt 0223, Forward Observation Unit) Common Designations: GCF: TLe - Tactical Lead (Equivilent to Platoon Level Commander) SLe - Squad Lead (Equivilent Section Level Commander) SRi - Standard Rifle SEn - Standard Entry SAA - Standard Anti-Armour SAD - Standard Air Defense WVC - Wheeled Vehicle Crew TVC - Tracked Vehicle Crew RVC - Rotary Vehicle Crew FVC - Fixed Wing Vehicle Crew SMT - Squad Medical Technician (Equivilent to Corpsman) ARF: CRO - Command Router Operator (Equivilent to Platoon Level Commander) SRO - Squad Router Operator (Equivilent to Section Level Commander) CTO - Common Tactics Operator STO - Support Tactics Operator ATO - Advanced Tactics Operator VTO - Vehicle Tactics Operator Other: MTC - Marine Transit Crew MTO - Marine Transit Officer MTS - Marine Transit Security MTM - Marine Transit Medical ATC- Airborne Transit Crew ATS - Airborne Transit Officer TCGCF Uniform: Field Gray BDU Balaclava Chest Rig, modelled after British "Wyvern" system.
