Guys,

I need your help. A buddy of mine celebrates his birthday very soon and I wanted to present him with a bottle of Cypriot sprit we drank when he returned from abroad deployment last year. He liked the stuff very much. The problem is I simply cannot remember the fucking name anymore. All I can remember is it was a dark liquor, very fruity, sticky and awefully sweet.

Maybe one of you is an alcoholic and can help out with a name? biggrin.gif

Hm very vague description...can you exclude that it's a wine? So is it definately a high alcoholic one?

Hmm...difficult to tell. It could also be based on wine (like Sangria for example).

Did you already check every single picture taken when you drank that wine?
Once we tried to identify a whiskey and found the bottle on a pic (Had to zoom in and do some PS work to find out which one it was)

Spending the better part of 3 or 4 hours place ArmA...

Can't really help, was last in Cyprus about 5 years ago so wasn't drinking <_< >_>

If it's a local one, unless it's a big big brand (Glengoyne whisky is fairly widely distributed in the UK and it's local to my home village but less so overseas afaik) you won't get it out of the country I can tell you that first off.

Dark: unlikely to be a seed spirit, understandable considering the region. So I'd go with it being a grape or fruit based one.

I'd also rule out Ouzo, clear spirit (brilliant for shots) when undiluted so dunno what else.

Anyone of these?

I look in a few sites, but the most popular beverage is the Zivania, it's a clear spirit (like vodka), as Jynx said. But, it's usually drank with grape's (red or green) juice, so that could have created the dark color of it. That's not all, grapes juice is the usual additive, but you can miz it with any other kind of fruit juice.

And if it's not that, well, you and your friend tasted a new beverage.

Well, there was a cypriot flag on the label.
I'm pretty sure now that it was Commandaria. The name sounds all too familiar.

Commandaria was the right catch. Quite difficult to get one of these in Germany, so he was very happy about it.

Again, thanks for your help guys.

Come on Bratty, you know you're not supposed to dig up ancient threads. If you wanna talk about booze, just create a new thread for it.
