Bangkok Dangerous

The usual hitman plot, and a remake of the '99 film of the same name.

Once again: What a waste of my time. Nicholas Cage perfoms really bad and his thai sidekick must be the most horrific actor they could have possibly found for this role.

Avoid if possible.

Try to imagine Solaris, right? It's that kind of film. But instead of leaving it in the hands of someone who can actually make that kind of film, it's been put in the hands of people who have about as much grasp on the concept of continuity as I have on the concept of not speaking my mind on the internet (read: none).

The International

with Clive Owen, Naomi Watts and Armin Mueller-Stahl

Basically it's a retold breakdown of the extremly criminal BCCI Bank in 1991. An Interpol agent and a New York prosecutor try to convict a group of corrupt bankers that want to finance a coup de etat in Liberia.

The acting is brillant. The most stunning perfomances come from danish actor Ulrich Thomsen who plays the CEO of the corrupt bank and from Brian O'Byrne who plays the "consultant", a professional hitman.

I've been waiting for a movie like this for years. Finally a good action thriller from good old Germany. However it could have deserved more running time than only 100 minutes. A movie like this should have lastet two hours or more.

This movie was pretty good actually, however it was marketed in a very strange way only being released in North America in January of this year, even though it debuted in France in 2008.


I have recently watched:

Eagle Eye ~ This movie is a wannabe thriller with a plot that is so unbelievable.

W. ~ "biopic" of George W. Bush's life, it was okay and rather unbiased in a way

My Name is Bruce Campbell ~ A really good "B" movie, with one of the most recognizable "B" movie stars, Bruce Campbell, star of the Evil Dead series. It is mildly entertaining and rather over the top at times but good fun all around

Le Mans

with Steve McQueen and Siegfried Rauch

This movie is about less more than the rivalry between a Porsche- and a Ferrari-Driver that race against each other in Le Mans. Cars and the race circus of Le Mans come to the fore. The result is an amazing action documentary with shots that are brillant even 38 years after the making.

Absolutely recommendable for everyone who likes motorsport!

I must say I usually don't like asian movies. They have a very conventional way of filmmaking. But this movie is a piece of coal that turned out to be a diamond. Great yet tragic plot, some very funny scenes and a good play by all actors.

Spoilers! (Not that it matters anyway)
Its so unbelievably crap i nearly died, the scene where he inflates the bags with his tires so his car floats up made me cry. I cant even think of 1 good aspect of this movie, there is some chick in it but Jason Statham was more naked then her during the entire film. He even strips during the fightscenes which ruins the only opportunity of something enjoyable. I wanted to tell you something about the plot as well to make it look like a review, but there was none.

Decided to raid my flat mates movie colection and dug out a horror flick i'd been meaning to see, so here's my short review of...



General summary?
A cameraman and reporter tail an LA Fire department crew for a night, following a medical call out to an apartment building they and the residents are sealed in by CDC and what would appear to be the army (Don't recall the CDC having an armed response wing, if they do I think I may be moving to the states to work lol).
As horror films tend to go if they involve any thing nastier than a cold things go tits up from there.

Opinion?
Throughout the film there is no soundtrack the sound effects of things happening in the actual presence of the camera and around the building combined with the clever use of how microphones being used by the cameraman and reporter give this a very unique feel to it which other films that use the: from the camera guy's perspective such as Diary of the dead (Nearly typed Dairy of the dead...bovine zombie horror anyone?) just don't have.

Really gets the viewer on edge, as in most zombie films, you know whats going to happen but the way the camera work is done and the simple lack of music to destract from what's going on just makes everything a bit more intense and scary.

A downer is the lack of detailed explanation to what caused it all if your not looking for it. I guess that could be considered a bonus as with some of the romero films it uses the lack of understanding of events to make them that bit more scary (Due to some of my own personal interests I kinda picked up on where the plot was headed shortly into the film but others may not).

Acting varies throughout the film, it can be so so at some points but in cases where extreme fear is being shown it is quite real and I felt sucked into that at least once during the film.

Rating?
I'd give this between an 8 and 10 out of 10, I'm not quite sure what I'd rate it as for sure as it'd take two viewings (which I'd happilly do) but it fit the bill for most things I look for in a horror: It was guininely (sp?) scary for me, I didn't actually feel the sudden urge to tastelessly laugh at something and make everyone in the room feel uncomfortable, the plot was not so simple that it took away from the film but not to complex so as to make it seem up itself (admitedly this shouldn't be hard for any horror movie to do) aaaand I actually thought: "Oh crap" when some of the bad things happened.

Opinion:
A superb action packed shooter that will keep you entertained all the way through, with stunning fight scenes and unbelievable gun battles. The intensity is something else. I recommend to all who like action films of the matrix style (though I believe It's better than the matrix - Less visible CGI usage, better fighting and better storyline).

Rating: 9.5/10

Opinion:
Good action film with lots of guns, twists and killing. Fans of Wahlberg would like this one, the second best movie I've ever seen him do. Lots of action, intensity and realistic storyline based on the shadowy world of the US government. Enjoyable all round movie.

Anyone who's a fan of "stupid" movies should see this one. It's pretty much like Eurotrip (<-- Must see)

The film is based on a true story of the 9th company during the Soviet invasion in Afghanistan in the 1980's. Young Soviet Army recruits are sent from a boot camp into the middle of the war in Afghanistan. The action is not like a boot camp at all. It is very bloody and dirty. The 9th company is defending the hill 3234. They are hopelessly calling for help. But help never comes. "This is war, you kill, or get killed", says the 9-th company leader Khohol (Bondarchuk). They believed that they served their country. But two years later that country ceased to exist.

It's basically Soviet Full Metal Jacket. Well, close enough anyways.

I'm in two minds about this, I wouldn't compare it to Full Metal Jacket, though it does have some similarities. (The structure of the movie for example, showing training before actual combat situations), it's also a lot different in it's own way (definitely highlighting the differences between the American and Soviet approach to conflict and training). I found the movie a bit hard to understand at times, I'm not sure if this is because I was watching it with subtitles... if you can speak Russian fluently you might find it easier to understand.

That said, definitely worth watching. If only to see Mi24s kicking ass

The drill scenes are rather a typical embellishment and a 1:1,5 copy of "Full Metal Jacket". Not necessary in my humble opinion.
Most of the scenes that actually take place in Afghanistan are entertaining though.

Speaking of the MI24s...You should give "Afghan Breakdown" a try if you can. It's a Russian-Italian movie about the conflict shot in 1990. I've heard that many veterans say it's the truest depiction of the Afghanistan war. A bit lengthy, but a package of awesome scenes without the computerized special effects. (Ever seen an air fleet of approximately 40 Mi-8/17 and Mi-24 in the skies?)

It's a BBC picture about the early days of the Bosnia war. I had the chance to get my hands on this one and it's absolutely recommendable, in fact an awesome achievement for a TV production.

Room 1408

I gotta say I way thinking about something: is that possible to make a good film and horror that takes place in one room?
I dont like King but I gotta say: good film, but not horror.
Room 1408 is psychological horror based on Stephen King book on the same name. Mike Enslin is book writer. He decides to visit Room 1408 in Dolphin Hotel that is - as people think - cursed. Hotel manager (in this role Samuel L. Jackson) want to discourage Enslin, but he cant - so Mike get the key. After some time seemingly normal room shows it real face...

I think that quite good film, but I dont like King's style. I mean book and movie are psychological. THere are nearly no monsters, zeds etc. Hero simply goes crazy - and this is most scary. In fact - I am not sure if I am really on the same world after Room 1408

Nice one, but could be better
